Had high hopes for this place but I left feeling very underwhelmed !
To start 1 of the 2 waiters asked if I'd like a drink, explained I was still working and ordered an iced water. 5 minutes later the other waiter asked what I'd like to drink and again I said I'm working and I've asked your other waiter for water he then said I'll take your food order and get your water after. 20 minutes later I asked where's my water and finally I got it.
The food well it was edible but can't say much more than that. I ordered a chicken tikka jalfrezi which usually comes with veg like onions, peppers and tomatoes and it's a light brownish kind of colour and is hot and spicy... This one came out bright red with no vegetables, just chicken in a sauce with one chilli on top. It looked more like a madras and was not spicy at all!
I asked for jerra rice which I've always had white fluffy rice with jerra seeds in, this was fried pilau and was very fragrant like washing up liquid, must of had lots of lemon grass in it or something either way it was not good
Then I ordered saag aloo and garlic, chilli and keema naan. All I can say is the aloo must have ran through the saag quick as it was 90% spinach and not much potatoes however the only bit I did like was the naan as it was crispy how I like them and spicy unlike any of the rest of my meal.
So it was ok but nothing special and it's safe to say I won't be returning...
Read moreWe went here for dinner with friends on Saturday night and the atmosphere was buzzing.
The restaurant is beautifully decorated with tables and chairs, and booths too.
It is located on the first floor but there is a lift if you don’t fancy the stairs. The staircase is wide with a good handrail and well lit. There is free parking right outside too which is very handy.
The staff are very friendly and the menu is very comprehensive with good descriptions.
We ordered poppadoms with a tray of dips to begin with which was great, and then we each ordered a different starter. My fish pakoras were tasty but the garlic mushrooms were disappointing. Our friends had chicken pakoras and onion bahjis which were both excellent.
For mains we each chose a different curry so we could try different ones. They were all tasty but my chicken tikka saag was more spicy than I expected so they very kindly took it away and tamed it down a little which was great!
The drinks were very reasonable at £17.50 a round (2x gin and tonic, 1x Cobra, 1x lemonade).
The overall bill was £111 which we thought was very good for four of us :)
We will...
Read moreIt is with a heavy heart that we are having to leave this poor review. We have always been regular customers of Sonali Spice but over the course of this year we have seen the quality of service and food fall dramatically. We visited again yesterday evening and was truly shocked by the poor standard. The service is so slow and most of the staff seem totally disinterested in their customers experience. We both ordered different mixed starters and main meals, but the chicken was so salty it was barely edible. The portion sizes are now considerably smaller than previously, but are presented in a different way as if to decieve. I should have raised my complaints earlier but chose to do so when paying the bill. I just really hope they take this complaint seriously otherwise they will continue to lose even...
