Nestled at the entrance to Bournemouth’s Lower Gardens, The Terrace Cafe enjoys a truly enviable location. With its elevated, sun-drenched outdoor seating and panoramic views over the gardens, it’s the kind of spot that practically invites you to pause and unwind. On a fine day, the setting alone can carry the entire experience.
We stopped by for drinks, drawn in more by the view than anything else, and it’s fair to say the setting delivered exactly what we hoped for—a tranquil, scenic break from a long walk. The menu, however, leaned towards the modest side. Just a handful of cocktails and a rather limited beer selection made the drinks offering feel like something of an afterthought, particularly for a venue with such prime footfall. Coffee, too, missed the mark; slightly over-extracted, it lacked the smoothness and depth I tend to look for, even in a quick outdoor café stop.

Read moreWhat a great little find this gem of a place is, after walking up the steep path, over the bridge, from the lower gardens, towards the new bird house. The range of drinks and eats is wide, although we only had pistachio iced coffee and cake on this visit, just want we needed after the steep walk, to help cool us down, but we plan to go back tomorrow for lunch and try their wonderful plater’s. Unfortunately it was raining at the time of our visit, but they had a huge umbrella up, and comfortable cushioned chairs out, with a lovely view of the lower gardens and the new bird cage, when it’s opened. I’m happy to...
