We didn't stop to eat as had already had an enormous breakfast earlier! Following an organ concert at the Cathedral, my friend and I stopped at The Black Lion for drinks. I was blown away by how beautiful the courtyard garden was with a vast array of excellently cared-for plants, flowers, hanging baskets, etc. This place really does have a beautiful situation and is comfortable, relaxed and spotlessly clean throughout; as were the gent's toilets, refreshingly! The staff were also really very nice indeed; friendly, talkative and very approachable. I'd not previously visited this pub before, but it'll be my stop-off after every concert visit in future, not to be missed. Easy access from what I could see (level access for wheelchair and frame users, e.g.. As mentioned, we didn't eat, but the food brought to other patrons looked fantastically presented and regret not having any appetite to sample it...though I shall next time! A truly pleasant experience and I was sad not to have had more...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe owners are horrible and rude, a group of 4 of us went in there, the old woman behind the bar was abrupt, only one word answers for anything that came out of her mouth.
she was not welcoming or polite in any way, as soon as we left the bar with our pints and meals ordered she started talking bad about us straight away without hesitation, not even considering that we might hear or her being quiet about it.
this was too a local, not even a staff member behind the bar, would NEVER come here again, absolutely so rude and disgusting of a pub.
The food was an absolutely shocking display, Ā£13.50 for a burger which felt like it was cooked in a George Forman with no seasoning or absolutely NOTHING in it. The pie looked like it was a flat tyre and the taste was like it was an Egyptian sandal. The salad was mediocre at best and it has absolutely nothing with it but tomatoās.
Family has been coming here for years, we would never now come again after this SHOCKING...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBad experience- a group of us came in for food and drinks. After ordering drinks we left to sit outside and they proceeded to make rude comments as we were heading out the doors-while I can understand our age have a stereotype, we were nothing but polite and civilised. Once the food came, for the price we paid we expected something decent. We received 2 flat steak pies which were dry and crumbling inside, the burger was a dry piece of meat plainly stuck between two buns, and the salad was wilting, flat and poor quality (maybe four leaves with a couple pieces of chopped cucumber the size of your pinky nail). As locals, this was incredibly disappointing. The service was rude and unwarranted, and the food was over priced and honestly shocking. A real shame, we do recommend staying clear- especially if you are of the teens to 20ās age range as you will be stereotyped. Terribly...
