Great food, amazing location & atmosphere. Totally let down by hit-and-miss drinks & abysmal service.
Cannot fault anything to do with the locale - you can't do much better than being sat overlooking the Wye. All very nicely decorated with plenty of gas fire pits available to warm you up on a not-so-summery evening.
Food as well is great. Whether you're having an à la carte snack or something more substantial, you can tell that quality food is something that they take very seriously.
However, drinks leave something to be desired. At this price point, you expect all cocktails (or at least the classics) to taste right. In reality, it's a bit of a mixed bag - with watery Cosmopolitans and bitter Margaritas. On the whole, the cocktails are decent, but they don't hold a candle to the neighbouring business The Tipsy Kat.
When it comes to service, the whole thing becomes a bit of a joke. Whether you're ordering coffee and snacks on a Friday midday or a small number of cocktails on a Saturday night, the time to complete any sort of order is excruciatingly slow to the point of madness. It seemingly doesn't make any difference if you order from the counter or via their mobile web app - a nice touch which makes group orders much easier, by the way.
It also doesn't have much rhyme or reason - for instance when we visited recently, our party ordered from their selection of loaded fries (very tasty, I might add). However, all but one of the portions were sent out together, with the final portion being sent out a full 30 minutes later. The waiter's explanation was that they were "distracted" (whatever that means - perhaps they saw a squirrel) and, while apologetic, they seemed to think that was otherwise acceptable.
This could easily be my favourite spot in Hereford if they reviewed the quality of the cocktails and (crucially) sorted out the absolute state of their service. Would still recommend a visit to anyone, but be...
Read moreworst experience yet (ps my English typing is not so good so enjoy the pain of reading ahead)
so I have been to the coffee pot many times and today 4/30/22 was the worst experience I have had in an open yard food/drink place yet (yes I understand it was busy).
First, we got there and looked for a table, found one sat for 10 minutes, and were in the process of paying for food but then a server came up to us and said we had to move as the table was booked, they then placed the reserved table sign on the table like it was some kind of joke. Worst of all they just did it and ran offered no alternative table, just said you can't sit here and might want to move. If I knew they were not going to stay with us or point/find us alternative seating or just told us to wait at the front for a bit and they would clean the next table and lead us to it the next one they found, like the normal thing to do in that situation I would have not moved.
A few other points that made me not enjoy my time here (yes the table thing did leave me a bit dumbfounded. why take reservations on a known to most likely to be busy day like events 101??? Ramen came only with a fork to eat with ??? non-smoking areas outside non-existent from what I could see? Please don't give me a napkin that looks like you just pulled it out of your pocket (yes this was a bit petty of me to say here but at this point I wish I just went to Wagamamas, I hate Wagamamas.
Good points Ramen was good Art fare was good
To anyone reading this, I have enjoyed my time at the Koffie Pot many times before today so yes go try it, but for myself, I think I'm going to think twice...
Read moreFirst time visiting since the lockdown. My friend had booked the table. Walking in the girl hosting asked if we’d booked and we could decide to sit inside or outside. We were asked to sanitise our hands before taking choosing a seat. Once I was sat inside no one had informed me that to order food we had to use an app. There was no explanation at all about how the restaurant now works. Once figuring out that we had to order online our drinks were brought to us fairly quickly. I ordered quiche and my friend ordered steak. We were informed there was no peppercorn sauce and a waitress brought the refund to me. However she only gave me £1.50, yet the app charged more. I pointed this out to the girl who brought our meal and she didn’t seem to care. It took over 35 minutes for our meals to arrive, which granted a steak does take longer than a quiche to cook, it would’ve been more professional to have been informed there would be a wait on the food. My quiche was beautiful though. Nicest I’ve had in a long time. When leaving we walked past three members of staff, there was no friendly goodbye or asking if our visit was good. I understand things are difficult for most restaurants post lockdown, however I feel there was a lack of good customer service today. I have been in restaurants since the lockdown that have been a lot more attentive towards their customers. I did notice a sign when leaving the restaurant about using the app to pay. However not everyone will think to look to a board or may miss it when entering. It would be better if the process was explained...
