This visit was a birthday gift and it exceeded all expectations (So thank you Aunty) the dinning room is decorated beautifully and in keeping with house next door (78 Derngate) for those that do not know this dinning room is attached to Charles Rennie Mackintosh house which is also well worth a visit. So to the afternoon tea. Sandwiches & pastries came on a 2 tier cake plate. Presentation could not be faulted and knowing that we eat with our eyes, this was sumptuous. Word of warning unless you have a hearty appetite, be careful here or you'll never make it to the cakes! Yes the cakes also came on a 2 tier stand, overflowing with an incredible selection. Again Presentation took 'awesome' to a whole new level. As an extra we had prosecco and it was a very generous glass topped with a raspberry. All presented on beautiful vintage crockery. They have obviously put a lifetimes worth of thought into this venture and it shows. The staff (owners) are very friendly and ensured we have a lovely time and we definitely did. And they also cater for vegetarian, vegan & gluten free so long as they know in advance. Now the dinning room is on the ground floor but it is well worth noting that this is a very old listed building and the toilet facilities are downstairs which are narrow and a little steep so bear that in mind if you plan to visit. There may well be a more accessible toilet, it might be worth checking! We were both well impressed with our tea even though we had to take quite a lot of it home with us (oh dear, how sad!) So would we say it was value for money, absolutely. Would we go again, yes. Can't wait to get home, check my calendar and see when we can book up again. But don't take my word for it, try it for yourself, you won't be...
Read moreAfter being let down at the very last minute by another Northampton establishment we rang the Dining Room to see if they could accommodate us for a 40th Birthday afternoon tea. We arrived less than ten minutes later and were absolutely delighted to find our table decorated for the occasion with a banner and table confetti. The food was absolutely outstanding, A good selection of pillow soft sandwiches, the most amazing warm savoury scones with cheese and chutney, quiches and other savouries were just for starters. Next followed the most incredible array of cakes, macarons and warm fluffy scones with clotted cream. Gorgeous crockery, and a plentiful supply of tea, things could not have been any better or so we thought.......the staff then bought in a 40th birthday decorated brownie complete with candle and sang to the birthday girl. Service was attentive without being overbearing, what a brilliant afternoon. Thank you guys you...
Read moreOh my goodness; what a find. We went here for a special afternoon tea for Father’s Day. As a vegan I’m used to being an afterthought. But not here. Not only fresh sandwiches but mini pastries etc all for vegans. The vegetarians had similarly high quality food. The scones were lovely but oh my word what amazing cakes. 5 each (and the vegan had 5 cakes too and not a fruit kebab in sight! If you are a vegan you know!!!). The afternoon tea was topped off by fresh fruit for all. They even allowed my son to have two hot chocolates with cream in the afternoon deal. Unheard of. The vegan cherry cake was to die for by the way! We’ve been to many places for afternoon tea, but for quality, price and choice it’s rivalling the Ritz. Thanks for the warm welcome and service, three very happy vegetarians and a vegan, who is also extremely stuffed lying...
