LAD63 , who has apparently written some 2,736 reviews, says it all about this place and, being local, will doubtless know when the management last changed hands. It appears that the 5-star reports all refer to previous incumbents in 2023, as they would not apply now. Having driven 153.3 miles throughout the day from Lostwithiel, we were greeted with the news that they were fully booked. Now, I plan any holiday months ahead and, bought a Groupon on the 13th March, for which I have a receipt, as I was planning our 52nd wedding anniversary trip. When I 'phoned the Inn, I was told that the nights I wanted on our way to Cornwall were blocked because there was a wedding locally on Saturday August 10th. I therefore agreed to switch our plans around to stay here on our way home - Saturday the 17th and Sunday the 18th. There is absolutely no organisation about the place, and the landlord made a cowardly retreat 'backstage' leaving a young barman to face the music, whilst we tried to find somewhere else to stay - on a Saturday night? It finally meant our driving a further 132 miles home to West Wales, without rest, or food, and very tired. 285 miles in one day may be safe for some but, in our mid-eighties, it was endangering our lives and the lives of others on the road. I also had to cancel a lunch booking at The Natterjack, and drive back to Cardiff on the Monday, where our last night of the holiday had been booked at The Miskin Manor, (Well worth a visit). The only advice the landlord of the Horshoes could offer ? -' Well Groupon will refund your money'. How callous was that?||Having been in touch with Groupon this week, I learned that the Horseshoe management have their own system of dealing with bookings - Really? Well, it doesn't work. I feel the landlord will also have his own system of wriggling out of this - to which I shall not be able to respond. However, I can only repeat that, in my judgment, the latest two reports have put a very accurate mark on the place. which should be heeded. I present my reviews as I experience them and it is really the danger in which my wife and self had to face which got me really angry. If anyone wants to read a more typical report of mine - see The Moorlands Hotel Dartmoor, or The Fish Market in Looe. I have had to give this review one more star than...
Read moreNice, clean premises, quaintly decorated and the shared bathroom was lovely with a hot, strong shower. The young man who showed us our room was lovely and friendly and we had a delicious G n T in a very cosy area of the pub. There was a lot of noise from the traffic, but I guess that can’t be helped due to the location of such an old building and keeping the old windows. However, the top of the window didn’t shut at all to block out some of the noise. The mattress was probably the most uncomfortable I have ever slept on (room 3), every lump and bump could be felt, only one bedside lamp that didn’t give enough light to read by and there was one kettle between all the room that you had to plug in down the hall! Didn’t see a soul the whole stay, after the first evening, so couldn’t ask for milk for a drink anyway! A dog from one of neighbouring rooms pooed outside our room and along the corridor! The price was very cheap, but would pay more in future - for a...
