I had high hopes for The Journeyman, which came highly recommended for their roasts, but unfortunately, it fell a little short of expectations.

We were greeted by a friendly staff member and promptly seated. Our drinks were ordered soon after, though the cocktails took quite a long time to arrive. When they finally did, they were well-made and enjoyable.

Among the four of us, we tried all the roast options: chicken, beef, and the vegetarian pie. The half chicken was the standout, with juicy meat and a wonderfully crispy skin. The vegetarian pie, featuring a flavorful blend of butternut squash, spinach, and mushrooms, was a delightful alternative to the usual nut roast. However, the beef, while cooked to our liking, came with fat despite our request for none, and the portion size was noticeably smaller compared to the chicken.

The seasonal vegetables were decent, but the roast potatoes were disappointing—dry, lacking fluffiness on the inside, and missing that crispy exterior.

For dessert, we ordered three options: sticky toffee pudding, triple chocolate brownie, and bombolone (mini doughnuts). Unfortunately, the sticky toffee pudding was dry, as if it had been reheated in a microwave. On the other hand, the brownie was rich and gooey and the bombolone were soft and fresh.

While the staff were lovely, the service was quite slow throughout the meal, despite the restaurant not being busy.

Overall, this visit didn’t quite hit the mark, but I’m willing to give The Journeyman another shot and try the...

The service was excellent. The lady who took care of us was incredibly friendly and helpful, as was the young man at the entrance. However, I was quite disappointed with the food. The garlic prawns had an overwhelming amount of garlic, to the point where it was excessive. It seemed like they used the cheapest frozen prawns available from a wholesaler, and at £13 for 5 prawns drenched in oil, I expected better quality. Given the apparent investment in the establishment, it would have been wise for the head chef to opt for higher-quality ingredients. While the ambiance and decor were pleasing, the primary reason people visit such places is for delicious food and a great time. The same issue applied to the smoked salmon; it seemed like a lower-quality salmon, although the portion of avocado was generous.

I believe a slightly smaller menu could help maintain better control over the stock and improve the overall quality of the dishes. Admittedly, I had reservations when I saw the extensive menu, but I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, the experience was even worse than my initial expectations. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're looking for high-quality and flavorful food. On a positive note, the presentation of the food on the plates was visually appealing, although the garlic prawn starter was an exception – it was simply prawns in a bowl...

The food I had was tasty it filled me up. I had the large fish and chips, however the gluten free alternative was disappointing for the wife. As there was no alternative they just removed the item of gluten from the dish. The same thing goes for the children's roast my son's lactose intolerant not allergic he would have been fine with a Yorkshire pudding, but there was no alternative provided. I wish the waitress had mentioned this as I would have not chosen the dish for him. The children's burger was also dry there was no sauce provided inside the burger, and no sauce was brought or offered to the table for my daughter to add if she wanted. Please note if you are gluten free you still pay a premium price for the gluten free alternative dish which is wrong when no alternative is provided. So it's misleading saying the item of food on the menu has a gluten free alternative when none is provided. Also the "brownie" that my wife and children has was more like a steamed chocolate pudding not an actual chocolate brownie at all.

The staff were attentive, the restaurant was packed. But the restaurant decor is nice similar to an everyman cinema vibe.

There is a kids menu but no colouring crayons or pens to keep the children busy one thing to...

First time in the journeyman. Went as a group of 12 for an 18th birthday. They seated us out the way which was great, because it got busy and a little loud for me. I think the booths helped block it out too. I had pre-ordered everyones meals and when we arrived there were placemats with everyone's names and menu chose written on the back. So many of the group couldn't remember what they ordered too so this was a plus. The food came out quickly, fresh and hot. The lady (Georgia) serving was observant and noticed if anyone's glass was empty and quickly asked if we would like another drink. I can't wait to go back again. The food was very delicious and everyone really enjoyed the evening.
