Slow food at its best.
One of my top few favourite places I've ever eaten. We went there on a whim (midweek in October) based on other reviews. During the day the place looks closed up, there's no sign outside. Definitely would have overlooked it without Google maps!
As others said, there's no menu. We were served the best scallops I've ever eaten, then a mushroom risotto which was one of the best risottos I've ever eaten, then a pasta dish featuring the best ragu I've ever eaten outside of Emilia-Romagna, and then a wonderful orange and almond tart. All accompanied by some top-notch wines (I'm not a wine person so now can't remember what they were). The whole place seemed to be run by one person who was simultaneously the chef, front of house, waiter, barkeeper. So don't expect fast service; this is an experience to savour through a full evening. There are at most 4 tables in the place, I think I decided that you could squeeze a total of about 20 people in but it felt full enough with 10 of us dining.
The ambience is top notch. It's fancy without being pretentious at all. Log fire, jazz in the background, warm and very rustic appearance. Casual but intimate and cosy and just special.
The quality and care in the food and drink and the relaxed atmosphere made me feel very strongly that I was in a Bolognese trattoria.
We enjoyed it so much that we went back again a few days later. On that occasion there were only 4 of us dining. A couple of walked in later in the evening were turned away because he had only got enough food for those who had booked. Book ahead at least a couple of days in...
Read moreBeautiful honest gem of a restaurant. We were passing and could see that this was the perfect place for something special. So on our first chance to have a night to ourselves we made a beeline to see the owner Chris to see what ingredients he has sourced that day and what he is creating with it and of course make our booking. His word is the menu. Fresh, honest…. & simple. On sitting that night, we were presented with a homemade steaming hot cob loaf with salted butter and a recommended bottle of wine by his wife. Soon to follow was a stater of simply cooked scallops, which were delicious. We then shared plates of freshly made squid ink spaghetti with prawns and slow cooked breast of lamb with bulgar wheat. We finished the night with a very well curated selection of cheeses with simple rosemary biscuits. It was all fabulous. Chris and his wife were very welcoming, helpful and created an amazing unique experience. We will definitely, definitely visit this gem again on our...
Read moreWhat an incredible find the Kings Arms is. Firstly you must book as it is quite a small restaurant and it’s not like any other restaurant I’ve been to. We were met by the chef when we came in and he told us what kind of food he had that day. We just agreed to have a bit of everything and he just brought us various starters and main courses which were all fantastic. There was no menu or prices and we just went with the flow (and there didn’t seem to be vegetarian options). The flavours were amazing and there were plenty of wine choices to go with. The cheesecake for dessert was one of the nicest things I’ve ever eaten. Will definitely eat here again next time we are in Mevagissey. All in all a fantastic experience and the bill was actually quite reasonable for...
