We was so excited to visit this restaurant as it had been recommended to us from a local. Our starts was very good and came out fast and fresh. For my main i ordered the steak medium/well pink with no blood. When it arrived it was charcoal black but i thought I would at least taste it first before judging. After tasting it I found it to be chewy and unedable so So I asked my mum to tasted it for a second option she found it to be the same as me. I then called the waitress over to see if I could get the steak I ordered. The waitress told me off and said what do you want me to do I said I would like a stake that is not charcoled and tuff please. She took my plate off me and walked into the kitchen shouting the customer said its over cooked the whole restaurant heard her as did we. I found that to be supper unprofessional. Then the chief came to my table and said very loudly that my steak was cooked perfectly there's nothing wrong with it and that he had tasted it. That all the ovens had been turned off and that he would not be offering me anything else. I replied ok in shock because i was so embarrassed and just wanted to leave. He then walked off throwing his hand in the air huffing and puffing. We paid the bill and I left the restaurant crying because of how poorly I was treated as a customer. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone because of the outrageously shocking poor service! Look for your self the proof this all in the photo I...

It was almost a complete DISASTER!!!!! I had booked a table for my wife and I on a saturday night at the salamander for our anniversary and travelled pretty far to get there. However we both arrived 25 mins early and spoke to one of the managers and asked if it was ok to sit at an available seating or table and maybe have a drink while we wait or if that was not convenient we will return on the booked time. I could see there was a free table for 2 availble a metre in front of us, when i asked if we could maybe sit there, she then said in a very stuffy, abrupt and frosty manner "well you can sit there for now but you will both be moved and relocated" no smile, no hello, no how are you both or I'm really sorry but if you would like to return back in a bit we will make it really nice for you but just got that. It was like a sketch from little Britain when the lady says computer says no. Its such ashame as a friend recommended it and the reviews are really positive so maybe i got there on an off day. Luckily for us another resturant was available and the people and staff where really nice and very understanding and couldn't do more. My conclusion to this is by all means book a table at the salamander but be very wary about...

What a fabulous surprise this restaurant turned out to be.

We walked through Mevagissey, after a longish day, looking for somewhere to eat. Luckily, the menu offered something to suit the whole family, we're a picky bunch, so we decided to eat at Salamander. The decor was unobtrusive and thoughtful, the staff polite and professional.

Once we had ordered, the entrees were delivered in a timely fashion; and were nothing short of superb. It's not often I sent complements back to the chef on a starter, but the scallops were cooked to perfection. Someone who not only offers up seafood as a menu choice, but has a natural understanding of the subtleties of cooking it just enough, and not too much. The mains also were cooked and presented with a sophistication and elegance that belied the modest frontage that is such an accomplished restaurant.

The most honest sunrise came with the price. Such accomplished cuisine could easily have commanded three times the price, in a Michelin star restaurant in London. If there's one 'must do' whilst you're in southern Cornwall, then for my money, a meal at...

Stumbled across this lovely little restaurant one evening while exploring the backstreets looking for somewhere to eat. Lovely 2 or 3 course set menu tempted us in and thankfully they had a table for us during this COVID-19 pandemic time (id advise for definitely book otherwise) They have a great selection of fish specials included in the set menu and the restaurant is modern, relaxed and comfortable. Tables are well spaced and it does not feel uncomfortable or crowded during this time. The food was delicious. Loved the fish and local scallops (we ordered another one because they were so delicious) and my family enjoyed some really lovely desserts made with Cornish cream. Staff and super attentive and friendly. My brother has autism and can be a bit difficult especially when taking him to a nice restaurant, but he was treated like any other customer. Would highly recommend

After a week in Somerset Devon and Cornwall this was hands down the best meal we had. Recommended to us by a local. Superb local produce, carefully prepared and expertly presented. Fresh flavours, slightly complex but not overly complicated. Simply combined but creative enough to be interesting. Hot crab starter was wonderful. Fresh off the boat hake, chunky and flavoursome and very glad I managed to squeeze in a dessert. Also the English white wine treated a little light to start but quickly grew on me. It feels like this place should have an accolade or two , although maybe the couple running it may not want that. Lovely service too.
