Overall experience wasn't fantastic. Firstly walking in with a large group, we was gonna need a big table as we were sitting down for food. We noticed that the cushioned seating area with a table was free but had previous custom e.g. left over plates and drinks on there. Didn't bother us, so we proceeded to sit down and wait for the plates to be cleared. We had just sat down, and someone came over clearing the plates and proceeded to tell us this table was already taken... We were confused as there was no sign saying reserved?... So we began to get up, and found that this large seating area had been 'taken' by three people.... Now you think that a group of 6 that needed a large seating area would some what be more beneficial of having the larger area than three people. But nope so we struggled to find a table that we could all be around to eat, to which unfortunately we could not find one so we has to separate. Secondly when you order a side and it states X2 corn on the cob, you would some what expect two right? No wrong. We got given one. When we approached a member of staff about it, she seemed confused and not sure what she could do about it. So then began the long wait for receiving something we paid for in the quantity of two... A good 20mins later we received the corn on the cob, to which we regret even ordering them in the first place. We didn't wait that long for them to just be reheated in a microwave... They were soft, wet and the overall taste wasn't that great either. It's a shame that these little things can have a major impact on our visit but it's little things that could of easily...
Read moreFour of us visited here on our Calendar Crawl around Ross on Wye on a Saturday night in June. This was the pub we finished the night at, after we had visited most of the local pubs in town and to be fair with the exception of just one, had found them pretty disappointing.. Our pint here was Gloucester Gold, thankfully the pint was OK. Similar to my experience in several wetherspoons, not what you can call pleasantly memorable, being the end of the night and this being probably the latest opening it was a catch all for visitors and locals all looking pretty much worse for wear but they all seemed to have enjoyed their nights. The staff too even after a long evening were still pleasant. My attempt at visiting the downstairs WC was akin to decending one of the gateways to hell quite a busy place, therein whilst awaiting a WC cubicle the door swung open and a very sorry looking early 20's male holding himself up with the wall whilst exiting the WC with what looked like cottage cheese and mixed veg on his face the scene behind him where he had clearly just vomited his evenings drinking and food content over the toilet and the floor thus I decided that I'd give it a miss, assuming there were similar scenes to be had in all WC's, luckily a urinal became free which solved my dilemma. Imaging being faced with this type of thing if you were...
Read moreOrdered “large” curry with half and half for both myself and my husband. It arrived with an apology that they had run out of vegetable samosas (this was at 5 pm!) so we had an extra onion bhaji instead and they hoped that was ok! Anyway we were both hungry and said ok, when I looked/tasted bhaji’s they were all burnt to a crisp and we only had six chips each on our plates! I knocked on kitchen door and asked the duty manageress to come take a look, she told me they always come out darker!!!! I told her they were burnt to a crisp. She offered to replace them and asked would we like anything else to which I said ”yes some more chips please”! The curries were tasty but everything else was terrible. We have been to several Wetherspoon pubs and had a curry meal but this one in Ross On Wye is absolutely the worst meal we have ever had. Food disgusting and service very poor! - Avoid like...
