First time visitors to this cafe, situated on a quaint cobbled backstreet, on the recommendation of another business owner locally. The food was excellent, delicious and couldn't fault it. The rating was let down by the service, and we weren't the only ones. On arrival we were prompted by a sign to wait to be shown to seats. We duly waited, and we were approached by a member of staff, only for her to be distracted, leaving us waiting again. Once greeted, we asked to be seated inside as it was a little chilly. The waitress looked up and down a piece of paper on a clipboard before deciding we could go in. It seemed to go on forever. If there was any point to this I couldn't find one. Inside there was further deliberation as to where we could be seated. I must point out there was no one inside the cafe at all, not one customer, with all the tables vacant. I couldn't help feeling frustrated. I am, at my age, quite capable of finding my own seat. I do, of course, understand that there may have been reservations but the place was empty. Did they want customers or not? I couldn't decide. As we ate our delicious food, a lady walked in and asked if she could have a table, for herself. Again, the waitress questioned whether she had waited outside, as per the sign. I could feel her frustration at being questioned, again, as the cafe had every table vacant, bar one. I just felt the communication from staff was poor. If the cafe was fully booked then just say so, there are plenty of other...

A great little cafe style eating place in the heart of the town, located on a lovely lane surrounded by the black and white buildings you will have come to see in Ledbury. We were lucky, but you may need to book to be sure to get a table at ideal times.. The menu is fairly limited, but the food is excellent.... Poached eggs with smoked salmon and hollandaise on toast was my choice and I was very pleased I did.... recommended! My partner had American pancakes and syrup with bacon...... very good as well but the portion was enough for two, however the waitress was very happy to put half of them into a box to take away to put in the fridge for later. We ate outside in the yard as it was sunny. Staff were very helpful and friendly and the wait wasn't too long, with our food cooked fresh, well and beautifully presented. This place is a much better option than the plentiful chain dining and pub type places, and the myriad of ordinary cafes with seats in the traffic fumes on the pavement by the road..... recommended to seek it out for a quality...

Absolutely lovely little cafe tucked within the beautiful streets of Ledbury. They lifted our spirits on a rainy day, by both offering us a seat in the dry (with the ability to choose an exotic feeling outdoors area which was covered, or the cosy inside) as well as offering us allergy friendly food.

We had visited 5 cafes along the high street of Ledbury already and all had turned us away when we enquired about accommodating for allergies. Some you could tell were scared to even attempt it! But The Malthouse we’re wonderful and friendly and put together a tasty plate of things our daughter could eat. They reassured us lots and took great care over us. We felt really welcomed and valued rather than an inconvenience. The food was delicious too!

It was a little on the higher end cost wise than we’d usually go for for lunch, but it was absolutely worth it for the overall dining experience. Would absolutely recommend them if you also are looking for an allergy friendly...

Great find in Ledbury! Was Easter Friday, so busy, but still we had a great experience. Worth reserving in advance, my guess is that it would be packed on a nice summer day. Was full indoors (has two floors) so sat outside, with blankets and patio heaters, was really nice. The quality of the food is very high: super fresh and delicious. My friend had huevos rancheros, I had a mezze. The highlight for me of an already great lunch, was the portion of bara brith I had with coffee after lunch: the BEST bara brith I have had. Parking in nearby Katherine Parking, as the Matlhouse is in a tiny, pedestrian, medieval street. Toilets are upstairs so beware if you can't go up the stairs, or if you have wheelchair or pushchair. I did not check if there was an alternative for those, please check in advance. I will definitely visit again.
