The Nevill — Restaurant in England

Arrived, asked if food was being served & if they did GF. Barman gave us menu & started to pull the drinks.....then the chef came out & said there wasn't enough food as they had bookings already. Bad planning, obviously, as whoever heard of not catering for drop-in/walk-in business. And pubs wonder why they go under when planning is so poor 😒 UPDATE TO RESPONSE: Considering it was lunchtime when we called in and the pub was very quiet, AND we were given a menu to select food, I stand by 'Poor Planning'. I fully accept if it was full, no tables available, because of Father's Day, that would have been a different matter, OR told no availability when we went in. But, as there were tables free AND and sign outside saying food was being served, one can only deduce, someone didn't...

WOW! We’ve just had our wedding reception at the Nevill. In their function room. From start to finish nothing was too much.

We want to give a shout out to John (The owner) for accommodating everything we asked for which was quite a bit as well as our reception planner. But I think our biggest thankyou, goes to our bar man Adam, who definitely needs a pay rise :) Everyone that came has said how professional he was. Considering he did almost the whole evening on his own, no one had a wait for drinks. The buffet food was great even with a few very picky guests, service was excellent but the friendly staff are the best part. We will defiantly be booking your function room again in the near future for...

I'm reviewing this place as a pub, not as a restaurant.

This is my closest pub, so I'm reluctant to give it a poor review, but the simple fact is that the only cask beer on offer, Harvey's, was in such poor condition that it was undrinkable. To be honest, it would be better not to offer a cask ale at all if it cannot be kept to a decent standard (maybe offer a decent range of canned and bottled ales instead). The selection of keg beers was dull and unimaginative - cold and bland.

I was there for a music evening, and the music was excellent, the atmosphere was good, and it was an enjoyable experience, but I can't imagine going to this place on an evening without such an event....
