Small stylish cafe within a not overly busy furniture store. It's tucked away at the back of the first floor and is quite an appealing area, not least because there are usually plenty of empty tables . The small counter groans under a selection of cakes and sturdy panini-type flatbread sandwiches. So much so that any business has to be conducted at a trays-width space at one end whilst interacting with one of the glum girls on duty. Very noticeable emphasis on healthy and vegetarian fare; the specials board a particular dead loss for any carnivores wishing to fill a hole.
Happily, there was some rather droopy bacon and a lot of moist brie on display within a hunky flatbread or two, and these certainly looked a lot perkier once nuked in the microwave. I hadn't noticed the caramelised onion within, which was a nice touch, and all in all this turned out to be quite a robust snack. Accompanying latte was also fine; hot and foamy with a distinctive taste, and plenty of it. I'm pretty sure that I saw a reference to this being a house blend, and zanily named after a goat.
We were there on a Friday lunchtime and only two other tables were occupied, one by animated ladies that lunch - the target audience, I would hazard. Incidentally, a few weeks ago, I went to the equivalent cafe in the Barker and Stonehouse store at Guildford. It was rammed so much that we couldn't get a table, the car park was full and the furniture part of the store was like the Marie Celeste. Not quite the same at Hove just yet, but maybe it's only a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOMG what a discovery! An absolutely stunning environment to sit and de stress in, the smell of the fresh leather is just as empowering as the fresh coffee which instantly greets your senses! The busy but somewhat chilled out atmosphere just added to my experience and then there was the menu, omg a small but exclusive selection left me pondering on what I should eat first, I opted for a toasted bagel which did not fail, it was packed out and tasted delicious leaving me with a real battle of wit not to keep eating more off the menu. The constant flow of customers kept the staff on their toes and their smiles and genuine enthusiasm again promoted the great environment I was sitting in. Oh and then there was the coffee!!! Yes that absolutely lived up to our very first meeting I had as I walked through the main doors, it smells amazing and tastes as good as it smells if not better. If youāve not discovered this secluded oasis upstairs in Barker and Stonehouse then I urge you to, take some time out just to relax in a wonderful...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAfter many visits, I was very disappointed at the service I received yesterday. To start with the table wasnāt clean, when I was served my ham and cheese croissant it was cold. I took it to the counter and told him he took it from me without a word and put I back in the microwave, he looked at me and said go back to your table and Iāll bring it over, I said an apology might be in order he totally ignored me, I though that when he brought it over he would address his behaviour but still no apology. As much as we have always enjoyed the coffee I will not...
