We stayed here as we were in Chester for a family wedding. We booked for ourselves and my husband's elderly parents. It's not luxury by any means, but it is safe and clean and has great service.
The decor and fittings are very tired. You can see where repairs have taken place over the years, where they've painted and cleaned with bleach which has stained some of the carpets. Unfortunately there is signs of damp in areas, although they've done their best to clean and repair it.
This being said, one of the lovely things about this hotel are the helpful staff. One of the lights went out in the toilet and they came immediately to fix it. They offered a free drink for the trouble. They were attentive all evening in the pub for drinks and dinner. Breakfast was lovely and inexpensive and they had veggie sausages for us vegetarians.
It is also safe and secure. It's got a nice car park, restaurant and pub. The rooms are clean and we were given clean towels daily. Everything works in the rooms and they have nice wall mounted TVs. There is tea and coffee with milk sachets in the room. They provided shower and bath gel for us. The windows are fine, they are secure and open at the top.
We brought earplugs as we've stayed in many Air BnBs and old pubs in our travels, and we know the walls can be a bit thin. It's the same as in this case. We could hear the door closing off and on and any noise from outside as we had windows open. We had the fan on as it's warm and humid and we were hot. The fan is great background noise so we weren't bothered by doors closing or traffic noise, but our elderly parents were. We gave them earplugs which we encouraged them to wear but they are stubborn in their advanced years and would rather have something to moan about, I guess. Don't bring your elderly folks to this hotel. Book them at a more expensive hotel chain.
For me and my husband, we are happy with it, but we're on our 40s and don't mind budget travel adventures all over the world.
The staff told me they're going through a refurb in...
Read moreWe stayed here for 1 night as just a "get away from home" As you can imagine to book somewhere away this time of year is really hard if you want to do it cheap. My partner found this hotel for £52 for the room. We knew it would be very basic but were happy to go along. When we arrived we eventually went to the room after having food in the lovely bar downstairs. I must say i was a little disappointed when entering the room, first thing i spotted was the door hanging off the single wardrobe. Something which, if we had a screwdriver with us,could of been sorted asap. Then i entered the bathroom, again very basic, and noticed the mould on the flooring in and around the bath and the sink. When looking at the bath i noticed one of the bath rails hanging off and the overflow was just a hole in the side of the bath. I walked back out and put kettle on to make a cuppa with the teabags etc that had been left for us . When throwing my teabags away in the little bin underneath the unit i noticed the bin had not been emptied previously. The bed sheets were crispy clean And the room was clean too Two blinds in the room worked fine Tv was a bit of a pain as the remote was a bit difficult to press the buttons, but all worked We also had an electric heater in our room, which we were glad of, baring in mind we stayed on the coldest day of the year so far, 15th december 2018
These few things are not massive issues, however if they were addressed when seen by the person cleaning the room, then this review would prob of had 5 stars as for the price we were happy with, where the hotel was situated, the surroundings were ok, the pub was lovely, and the staff were helpful and warming.
Parking is available on the pub grounds, wifi is also available.
We stayed in number 215 king room and the room was very roomy.
Lots of steps to get up to our room. And overlooked the car park.
Considering it is a pub and had a live band on when we stayed ,we didnt really hear much noise .
Anyway... as they say on Four in a bed...would we stay again?.....
Read moreTable booked for 6, arrived on time to find the place very busy and very obviously understaffed with only two front of house staff on duty. Looked for table but could not find the booked table, 2nd time this has happened in the last 4 bookings.|Fortunately a booth of six became available after about 5 minutes of standing around, and we jumped in before any other group could get it. Had to clear the and wipe down the table before being able to seat ourselves.||Placed order which was okay, downhill from that point I'm afraid. Half the meals came out and had obviously been under the heat lamps for some time, no more meals appeared so after about 10 minutes or so, we noticed that the two front of house staff were both serving on the bar and taking more food orders, at this point a chap from the kitchen came out to inform the front of house staff that there was a backlog of food to serve., he appeared to get short shift from the red haired lad on the bar. We then had to wait in the queue for a further 5 minutes to advise them that only half the people had been served on our table, by this time the other half had finished eating and still no further food !!!||The young lady who was front of house suddenly realised the kitchen had not been serviced for a long time, she dived in to the kitchen and appeared with the other outstanding meals, strangely all luke warm at best. I think you get the idea by now, and the really sad thing is that we did not even get a sorry about that guys run off our feet etc, just ignored. ||Have to say the young lady was very active in trying to pull everything together, serving delayed meals and collecting empty dishes, the other chap, mentioned earlier, seem to "lack" the same enthusiasm and moped about behind the bar even with no one to serve.||Understaffed at lunch time and at half term with more staff in the kitchen than on front of house duties, asking for problems...
