I would rate this higher if I could! It's pretty much the perfect café! The staff are extremely welcoming and friendly. The décor and ambience (non-intrusive music for once) and soft furnishings meant I could engage in conversation easily. As for the food, absolutely delicious! I had the quiche of the day, ham, tomato and cheese, garnished with side salad, coleslaw and crisps. It was really very good. No soggy bottom to be seen and full of flavour. Compliments to whoever made it! The salad was not just chucked on the plate from a bag, it was delicious as were the crisps and coleslaw. I had a black coffee to wash it all down. Honestly, one of the best lunches I've had in a while. My wife had a chicken, chorizo and cheese panini and she said it was excellent too. Probably the biggest compliment from my 6 year old was that he completely cleaned up his ham sandwich and pom bears! I nabbed some crusts and I can confirm his assertion that the sandwich was very tasty! Definitely recommended, a 5*+ experience!

First time at the old custom house and I hope it won't be the last. We ordered 2 sandwiches, coronation chicken and a toasted tuna melt.when they arrived We couldn't believe the size of the sandwiches. They were made with thick cut bloomer and wholemeal thick cut bread. The fillings were so generous they pilled out of the bread. There was a side salad plus Coleslaw and a good amount of crisps. Exceptional value, beautifully presented by friendly staff. The good decor made our experience. An added bonus, the staff should be commended for imaculate rest rooms. I can not rate this establishment highly enough and recomend a visit when visiting Amble

Staff are really friendly. Food is delicious. I thought it was a bit expensive but when you think about it's location, cost of things going up, and the quality of the food served, it's not too bad. Will definately go back next time I'm in Amble

What a fantastic find, if you want to go strongly suggest booking to guarantee a table. Lovely character venue, staff are all exceptional, pokte and friendly. Dog friendly which suits me, but I know others aren't keen. But all dogs today were extremely well behaved. Extensive menu, with a daily specials board. Corned Beef pie was beautiful apparently, wafer thin pastry, packed full of corned beef and potato, alongside buttery new potatoes and huge side salad. Had the most divine beetroot chutney with it too. Other choice was Bacon, Brie and Cranberry Pannini - not had such lovely Brie in a long time. Everything was lovely, not a morsel left. Saw the afternoon Tea for 2 being delivered - don't eat for a week if ordering it, was plentiful and looked fantastic. Filter coffee gets free refills - bargain. Would recommend and will visit again if...

My friend recently arrived from Australia and we enjoyed a lovely meal with friends at the Old Customs House Tearooms at Amble. The Tea Room was recommended and didn’t disappoint. It really has that homely feeling with excellent service. From the moment we entered we were warmly welcomed. They were busy, but managed to find us a table just for a cup of tea while we waited for our friends. (although our reservation was for an hour’s time). The room was warm and cosy and the seats were very comfortable. The Tea House has a pleasant atmosphere, an ideal place for warming yourself away from the chill of the day. The service is fast & friendly with excellent food in a lovely relaxing setting. There is large assortment of choices on menu which are very reasonably priced. A very enjoyable experience. Would...
