We have just had a lovely two night stay in Swanage for our first visit there. However our dining experiences on the two nights were completely different.
Tonight we ate at Perbeck plaza tapas bar and we were extremely disappointed with the experience. We arrived at our booked time of 7.15 to a busy restaurant (we are a family of 4 - 2 adults and 2 children). Disappointingly we waited over 50 minutes for our first plate of tapas to arrive - none of the tapas was home cooked, it was all pre-prepared food. Having ordered eight dishes between us we ordered a further two dishes which included calamari. We were disappointed with two dishes in particular- a creamy chicken dish and the calamari, which were both overcooked. We commented to staff about both of these dishes but received no apology or explanation. We were never asked by staff throughout the evening how things were or if we wanted additional drinks.
When we received the bill, we were overcharged for one dish we hadn’t received and also, surprisingly, charged for an extra basket of bread. As a table of four our initial bread basket was smaller than the table next to which was a table of two. When we questioned this with the staff she commented ‘it’s only £3.50 it’s not very expensive’. There was also no deduction for the two plates of food that we sent back. We had tasted both of these foods but were unable to eat the plates as the food quality was very poor. However no deduction was made from the bill and the staff member just informed us “we don’t take money off the bill”.
Customer service was extremely poor. The restaurant was busy but unfortunately I would not recommend and...
Read moreHaving been in a few more times I feel the need to adjust my initial rating (my first comments are below). The service has dropped to being awful and I have not been willing to return since my last visit.
On that occasion the service was very slow (despite not being busy), one member of staff ignored me for 6 minutes while I stood at the till (she was talking to a friend and the owner was there too. We were given a bill that had things we hadn’t ordered, given another one that looked about right (but they demanded another £25 when we went to pay) and were so atrociously rude to a friend I struggle to believe it.
“I can’t take any more of this, the service has been poor and I think this third bill is still wrong. I am paying this as I can’t deal with any more stress, it’s my husband’s funeral tomorrow”
“That’s not our problem”
So the building is lovely the food is good, but that’s it.
Initial comments. Beautiful building, lovely staff, good food and superb Sangria.
Just spent a lovely time here on their opening evening and really looking forward to coming back again…..and again.
There’s a lovely atmosphere in this beautiful...
Read moreThe place is a bit of a mix. It is a Tapas bar with a pool table and the tables and chairs are a bit of a hotchpotch. We were two couples and had a mix of bench seats and plastic chairs. The tables were not compatible and we had to use beer mats to level the tables. There is no wine list and the servers have to explain the wine without any description to self discern. The tapas was good except that the chorizo sausage was extremely poor and would not achieve a sniff of a genuine Spanish chorizo sausage - so they should seek another supplier in our opinion. overall, it was reasonably priced and the chef was doing her best. It was difficult to split the bill - a lack of maths on the server but calling the manager meant it was rounded up and a £1 difference rather than 1p. They didn’t accept my simple mental arithmetic !! The mens toilet was not clean and considering that this has only recently opened it is something that needs attention. Anyway, it’s good to have in Swanage and will give it another go...
