Awesome little free house. Serves an impressive collection of real ales (ciders are a little more wanting, as it's only Strongbow spits and either Old Rosie or another from Westons on tap), plus meads, mulled wine (possibly only seasonally, but still pleasant and a little unusual). The canned music is generally pretty good, and there are regular live music sets from a load of local (and occasionally not so local) bands. Be warned, it can get very crowded and loud when those are on, as the sound system they use would suffice for a small-to-medium hall, so it can be overpowering in such a small space. Service and atmosphere are very much friendly, and it's one of the few pubs where you could drop/forget something important/valuable, and it'd still be there...

During the planning stage, Shelley met with us and answered all questions, keeping in touch throughout the planning process. We were allowed access the day before to decorate and on the day itself to present the food and add the table decorations. As a central Darlington venue the location was superb for all guests. We had some travel from Glasgow, Austria and even Mexico for the party. Blessed with good weather guests were able to make the most of the outside spaces. A huge thanks to Shelley and the team for making this such an amazing...
ย ย ย Read moreThis place is a hidden gem. Small with a bar capacity of only around 30 although I am guessing. It does have a large function room to but that is not of interest to me. Ale, Ale and more Ale that's what this is all about. An affable and loyal group of licals are treated to a handsome supply of cask ales. Always purchased in relatively small quantities. Therefore you never know what is going to be on but can be sure it will be quality. Many a conversation has been had of "you missed a good ale last weekend". This is s proper pub, an independent pub and one which Darlington should be very proud of. Just don't tell anyone. 5...
