On a recent trip around the UK my wife and I stayed a night at Alnwick on our way to Edinburgh. We chose to stay at The Queens head Hotel and wasn't disappointed! The staff were very welcoming and friendly and seemed genuinely happy for us choosing to stay there. After a brief introduction with the lovely girl at the bar we parked our car out back and was escorted up to our room by one of the staff members. They were very proud of their establishment and were keen to inform us the rooms had been recently refurbished. We Stayed in the "Harry Hotspur" room which was very spacious with a super comfortable bed. After settling in and being late afternoon we took a walk around the beautiful town of Alnwick. On our return we headed to the bar few a few refreshments. Being from Australia and not familiar with the local beers we asked the bartender which beer she would recommend. She said "Cruzcampo"which was followed up with the approval of 4 patrons sitting at the bar... From then on Cruzcampo was our go to beer when ever it was on tap. I was particularly impressed with the "especially good VALUE" tags on the taps with the prices! If anyone from the Queens Head Hotel Alnwick happens to read my lengthy review, thank you for making us feel very welcome and your generous hospitality. If we ever spent 20+ hours again on a flight from Melbourne, Australia to the UK...
Read moreWe came here Easter weekend 2016 after reading their online menu. The websites we saw described this pub as welcoming, cosy, great selection of beers and a good menu.
Well, the one lady serving behind the bar was friendly, but rushed off her feet, the owner was apparently serving at the carvery and too busy to help out.
The menu (see connected photo) was not the varied nice bar snack menu as advertised, but a selection of 5 or 6 mediocre sounding dishes, the ones we saw being served looked very unappealing.
The beers consisted of 1 ale, Stella and bud, hardly what we were expecting. A lady who was being served Pepsi next to us said it tasted funny the barmaid said it had probably gone off! How often does cola go off?! The lady asked for a cup of tea and was told they're not serving tea because they were too busy.
The food area was adjacent to the ladies toilet, which meant anytime anyone went into the toilets you could see inside and there was a distinct smell of urine in the dining room.
As you can probably guess, we didn't stay...
Read moreAfter a hop skip and jump up the coast I stopped off at Alnwick for a look around. As a traveler on modest means I enjoyed a ride on blue double decker X20. The ride was picturesque and the journey into British Northeast coastal life is fascinating to a North American having waited a lifetime to visit UK. But I digress or should I say ambled down to Queens Head for a quick pint having built a thirst for Alnwick IPA..... reasonably priced and friendly confines await the thisty traveler at Queens Head Hotel(pub) in the heart of town. Just a short stroll from shopping, dining, and...
