I have just turned 18 and I decided to spend my birthday meal here…or so I thought. I walked in and was greeted with unkind looks from the members of staff. I sat down with all of my friends and we were not loud or disruptive and were about to order our food. A waiter then came over to our table in a very abrupt manner and rudely demanded that we showed ID. Obviously as we are all 17 and 18 and we were not buying alcohol, we did not bring ID. We also came to the pub at 5pm so it was not excessively late where ID would be needed. I have never in my 18 years of living been to a restaurant where they demanded for ID in such a rude way and at such an early time. When trying find a digital copy of our ID’s as we were trying to be as helpful as possible; we were rudely interrupted and told that the ID must be physical even if we had valid digital proof. I then told the man we understood if it was policy but we were never aware of this but I did say we would leave if it was a problem. He continued to have an attitude with me, continually demanding we leave after I had already told him we would. After his poor attitude continued we firmly told him we would be leaving and assured him we wouldn’t try and come back and he rudely stormed away in a strop. Do not come here if you want a good experience, my birthday meal was ruined and I will...
Read moreTen minutes after arriving and ordering drinks with the app I had to chase up the drinks at the bar (they were sitting on a tray).
Several weeks ago, I came here for 'Curry Night' and was somewhat disappointed when the vindaloo arrived ice cold in the middle. After the staff took it away another arrived about 10 minutes later which was nice and hot.
Tonight, I ordered the 'Beef Madras' which also arrived cold in the middle.
After complaining another one arrived (after nearly 15 mins) which was even colder in the middle.
The polite manager explained that these 'Beef Madras' dishes probably came from the deep freeze and couldn't guarantee that a third one wouldn't also be cold in the middle. I suggested they could maybe leave it in the microwave a bit longer. She said 'if I could cook it myself I would, but it's down to the kitchen. I opted for a 'chicken jalfrezi' which I was assured would arrive hot. It arrived reasonably hot (about 50c) but was not as spicy or nice as the beef madras would have been. My guest had long finished their steak and chips long before the second madras arrived. Based on my last 2 visits I cannot recommend this place for a nice...
Read moreAs a whole, I think this pub is pretty good. This is my regular, and visit often and for good reason.
The drinks, as for any spoons, are cheap as is the food. The selection of drinks is fantastic, there is so much range and variety that it can cater to any taste or want. The menu is also very varied, offering a range of dishes both large and small.
The one downside I see is that it can get VERY busy, particularly on peak times. Because of this, it can be very difficult to find a seat, something I have encountered a number of times when visiting but as the night goes on it does tend to die down and more seating becomes available.
Overall, it's a good place to socialise and have some drinks with friends. And the food is good too. You really can't complain for the...
