Absolutely disgusting experience. My wife, our 5-week-old baby (asleep in her pram, disturbing no one), and I were sat quietly in the garden, furthest from anyone else, early on a Sunday evening. Out of nowhere, staff came over and kicked us out, claiming they “don’t allow under-5s” and even making up nonsense about “not having a licence to serve them” – which is absolute rubbish and NOT UK law.
This wasn’t just unfriendly – it was discriminatory, dishonest, and downright pathetic. Instead of welcoming visitors, they lied to justify turning away a young family. Other reviewers have mentioned a “no under-13s” rule, so clearly they can’t even keep their own story straight.
Parents – do not waste your money here. Weymouth has far better pubs that are busier, cleaner, and actually treat customers with respect. This place is filthy, unfriendly, and stuck in the dark ages. Avoid the Red Lion like the plague – it’s a dirty, unwelcoming hole that doesn’t deserve a single penny of your custom.
If I could give 0 stars I would. Disgusting behaviour, I hope the pub shuts down...
Read moreNot family friendly - absolutely gobsmacked.. we have just arrived here for a meal and some drinks with our daughter under 2. We came here for food and drink specifically as we used to come for drinks on a visit to weymouth and wanted to now visit with our daughter. Most tables were empty outside we sat down got settled and I went to order. I started to order but was then told by another member of staff that the pub doesn't allow pushchairs inside or out at all and so after a 30 minute walk specifically to spend money and enjoy the start of a family holiday here we were forced to leave. There was a table opposite with a child so im assuming its just babys or pushchairs that arent allowed but we were tucked to the side and in no danger of obstructing direct foot traffic so I don't know what the issue was. A couple walking past heard this and were disgusted and suggested the very welcoming and friendly Nothe Tavern just around the corner. Sadly to say this will be our last visit to the red lion but we have our new favourite pub in town now...
Read moreCame here a week ago with friends, there were 10 of us and we were not youngsters by any means. Went to sit outside and a couple of us went inside to order drinks before ordering food. The lady behind the bar said we do not allow tables of 10, the owner stipulates maximum 8 only. We mentioned that two tables were together that hold 10 persons and she said they had no time to separate from the night before! We then asked could we separate the tables so they are not together and she said No because it wasn't fair on other customers us shouting across each other! She was rude and unpleasant with not an ounce of niceness about her. The joke is I looked up the owner and on their website there are pics of all the Team and the Owner's dislikes are "rude ignorant people". I think he seriously needs to look closer to home, I hope he gets to read this review. I would never ever use this place again and am speaking on behalf of all of us. Terrible way to be treated with her attitude! Just a nasty woman who should not be...
