Faaaaantastic!!! Food was superb, excursions absolutely worth it and it was even more picture postcard than we were expecting. The harbour is full of entertainment for all ages as is the beach front. I've never visited a more pristine beach, the sand was like white, soft flour between your toes and the sea was crystal clear.
We took all of our excursions on the yellow speed boat.... exhilarating riding the waves. A little more expensive but definitely budget for it.
If you like speed have a 20 minute Bay Blast, riding the waves and making donuts.
The Wildlife excursion does not guarantee dolphins but if you're lucky, they do get up close and personal. We recommend the 10:00A:M visit as they come out to play because they haven't seen anyone all evening.
Take a boat trip to Durdle Door, seeing it from the water gives you a whole new perspective and you understand why the locals call it the Water Dragon... also saves you a long steep hike to the beach. You are absolutely spoiled for beaches so why hike to one.
We spent our checkout day at Lulworth Cove, an absolute must. Pretty as a postcard and great for watersports such as paddle boarding, rowing, snorkeling etc. This is a shingle beach so wear something on your feet and take something to sit on. Great cornish pasties, fish & chips and ice cream. Grab yourself an extra...
Read moreLovely little harbour which leads on to the yacht Marina. This is still a working fishing base for several fishing boats and there is a fresh fish counter in one of the adjacent buildings. The harbour is great for taking a stroll and inspecting many of your yachties who moor alongside.
An interesting fact I am told, when the Black Death came to England, it came in through Weymouth harbour and the consequential catastrophe unfolded. A large proportion of the population of England dying as a result.
Back in the 70s understand there is a railway train which used to make its way along the road to the harbour. I don't suppose the health and safety aspect of this would be satisfactory these days, but there are some interesting pictures along the harbour side with pictures depicting the train.
Plenty of places to eat and drinking establishments along here.
There is a small Tudor house museum close to the brewery quarter a short distance awa that gives details of a little bit of...
Read moreI've visited Weymouth many times over half a century and always enjoy going. The beach is nice and sandy with facilities directly behind (toilets, food and drink etc). The extreme southern end is designated as the "dogs allowed" zone during the summer months (they are allowed all along the beach at other times). There is a park & ride but there are plenty of spaces at car parks in town (such as the Swannery car park which is about a 5 minute walk from the beach) and the train station is only a couple of minutes walk from the beach. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants in the town which are all an easy walk from the beach as it's a small town. The harbour is very pretty and it's well worth the walk across the bridge to the other side (where there's more places to eat and other shops) as you can then walk up to the Napoleonic era fort for good views back...
