This is an excellent little provincial museum run by motivated and knowledgeable volunteers. Certainly worth a visit as it is a Tudor building of brick construction. I was reticent at visiting this place initially but that was completely unfounded. When most people only visit the beach in Weymouth and perhaps a few foody shops, Weymouth has an amazing history dating back to about the ad1300. Reputedly one of the ports that brought the black death to the UK. Which resulted in almost 50% of the whole of the UK population dying a miserable death. Weymouth is perhaps one of the few towns in the country where the wonderful council has decided to use one of the Tudor buildings dating back to about the 1600 as a public convenience! Well I suppose it does allow free admission to and time to contemplate! Finally below is a part of a picture of a map depicting the route from London to Weymouth in pictorial form.......
Read moreMy experience of the Tudor House is quite unique. The museum is full of artefacts and period furniture and was the original brain child of a retired architect Ernest Walmsley Lewis. He was involved with the Weymouth Civic Society and bequeathed the house upon his death. A true gentleman who l admired. Ask about the secret Armada chest on your visit to the House and then visit one of the local hostilries for lunch.. The side of Weymouth where Trinity St is located is away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre but is well worth a visit finishing with a quiet stroll through...
