After a very tiring morning of trudging around seaside shops and catching crabs in the harbour, we decided to grab some lunch and settled on here simply because after a very happy visit several years ago on me and my wife's honeymoon!
The inside of The Ship Inn is very inviting,. they have a very well spaced out table setting. You don't feel like you are sitting down to eat with the table next to you! They also have a very pleasant outdoor dining area but we decided that inside was best for us and our three children!
Onto the food! For starters we went for the bread and oil which was standard fayre but easy to mess up. The bread was well toasted and the oil delicious. The hot wings was good, my children enjoyed devouring those and gave us a chuckle when they tried the blue cheese dressing! The half pint of prawns was also well presented and the dressed crab was delicious. Really well balanced!
Mains we went for was steak and frites, not quite on par with actual frites, think more 'thin chips' but it was really tasty and the steak was cooked perfect medium as requested (bonus points for the server asking how we wanted it) My youngest absolutely loved the fish finger sandwich (slight downside was the ocean of chopped lettuce which wasn't on the description and asked to have veggies removed but it was not a big deal) And then the burgers, they were really well cooked, well seasoned and didn't last long at all with my other two sons.
All in all the meal was fantastic. feeding a family of 5 is an expensive business but we didn't feel like we were skimping on quality. Special not to the staff who were all fantastic and friendly, even giving my youngest an extra sweet at the end when he requested one. Great setting for a family meal or a gathering in general! We...
Read moreOK where to start, lovely place decoration wise, nicely greeted at the bar where I was going to order our first drinks, told them we had a reserved table was shown to said table, all good so far well that was the start of it, they took our drinks order and we waited about 5-8 mins I know it sounds quick but the bar was 10ft away from our table I could of got them quicker myself, knew I should of got them while I was stood at the bar. And on the subject of tables, who ever thinks its a good idea to put a table for two within 5 feet of the toilet is very very wrong, is it not obvious that a table for two should be anywhere apart from next to the dump house. OK so on to food lovely menus nice amount of choice, ordered our starter sat there talking, food arrived in a timely fashion, only they had got mine wrong, so I sat and watched my partner eat hers there was no point letting hers go cold waiting for mine. The Staff were very attentive and a apology was swiftly delivered. Along with my starter being complementary( the one saving grace ) Mains came out and was lovely. Dessert was also nice. All in all a nice evening could of been a great one. So to sum up, #1. Order your drinks b4 you sit then they won't take so long to come. #2. Make sure your table is NOT next to the dump house. #3. Make sure you get the staff to reread your order back to you.
I will as always give the place a second chance, and another review will follow.
I've rated this four stars, even though the issues were addressed well 2 out of 3. I was too gob smacked about the table placement to even...
Read morePre booked a Sunday lunch at The Ship on the last day of our holiday . When we arrived the restaurant was busy outside due to the weather & coronation celebrations. My father who is in ill health sat at a welcoming table with a high seat . I went over to the bar and checked in . The lady behind the bar said it wasn’t our table and we’d have to move, the table in question wasn’t booked out for another 3 hours so she agreed to let us sit there . Soon after we settled she came over the ask us to move baring in mind we counted 8 empty tables . She reminded me once again they had a table of 35 upstairs and they were busy so we moved . Ordered a round of drinks and our food with starters . Due to my father being unwell he ordered off the children’s menu . The chap on the till seemed unsure of the system as it took a while to order .The food was served all together , the starter was sent back immediately , we couldn’t eat that alongside our roasts . The food was warm , the beef was chewy , the broccoli was yellow in places , Yorkshires were good . Burger was dry and over cooked .potatoes cooked a while . The 4 staff behind the bar ( who were chatting at this time ) didn’t ask us if our meal was okay and I couldn’t be bothered to ask for horseradish. Unable to cut the beef my husband left the restaurant. Maybe it was just too busy to expect good food or service? Spoke to the manager , only paid for drinks . The tables remained empty the whole time we were there . A disappointing...
