This is by far the worst run Stonehouse I’ve been too. As a regular at the peacehaven Stonehouse I was quite astounded at the poor quality of food. The food had quiet clearly been sat for far longer then food hygiene standards would allow. The meat was so dry it had turned colour and the server was unable to cut it. Instead just served lumps of dried meat. The roast potatoes were swimming in oil and burnt beyond saving. The veg was all over cooked and left for so long it was dry and cold. The “cauliflower cheese” was no long cauliflower cheese. It had all dried and turned to moosh. Yorkshires we’re so stale it wasn’t possible to cut them even after being soaked in gravy for 10 minutes. Gravy was just skin in the bowl. There wasn’t any gravy. It seemed the only happy customers were the ones ordering pizza. The staff albeit helpful, we’re so aware of the state of the place that they would go and quickly take bit from the food before letting you serve yourself. For example. The ice cream self serve. The server ran to the machine to take some ice cream before my child did to check it was “clean” before my child had some. All the free bits for the ice cream were removed from the station. Toilets. The toilets were flooded. The soap had been watered down so much we couldn’t soap/foam it up to wash our hands and had to go to the front to get hand sanitiser to clean our hands. Which was also so watery it just slid off of our hands. The outside tables hadn’t been cleaned in forever. No matter where you sat you go stuck to the tables. Inside and outside the tables were all sticky. The restaurant was unsurprisingly empty (which should have been our first clue) 15/08/22 was our visit date. 17:15 Surprisingly there’s not been a hygiene check on the place since 2018 so I shall be reporting them to the local authorities as the amount of flies on the food and the food qualities were not safe. This place is not up to code and I in fact had diarrhoea before I’d even left the building...
Read moreCome regularly as a family ! We had table for 13 for birthday meal ! We had the carvery which was disgusting the meat was so dried up and stringy that 2 of us choked roast pits tasted like they had been sitting there a week none of the food was edable ! Terrible service the 2 members off staff on were not very helpful and one lady was rude ! Our tables chairs and walls were crawling in ants lots of them when it came to dessert my kids went to get ice cream the ice cream machine was also crawling in ants and on top of the sauces and also found these in the kids bowels ! When we approached about this we were told yes we know the manager is trying to sort it (you should not of been open for health and safety reasons) and the guy at the bar also said that the salt and pepper pots have to be checked as the ants get in there aswell and that the whole restaurant has a problem with ants ! Even though it is warmer weather you do not expect this in a restaurant I've been to many in all weatjers and never experienced anything like it ! You should be shut down and deep cleaned and have all the right people to get rid of the problem ! We waited a long time at the bar and one point so long that I could have poured the drinks for 13 ppl myself and ypur staff wouldn't of known ! Your food was not good in anyway your staff were useless when we eventually found them aswell as rude the health and safety hygiene clearly needs updating to 0 and I suggest you invest in pest killer ! We have been regulars for years but this was disappointing for our kids birthdays with the amount of money we paid we didn't get any enjoyment out of it ! I have contacted environmental health and the local papers regarding this as ypu should not be open if you have a problem with ants and ypur food and staff are not up to standards then you clearly need looking into...
Read moreSaltdean tavern, how would you describe it. I like to think of it as a reverse Karen’s. Service is good but everything else is designed to be awful. It’s like stepping back in to the 1980s to get a Tudor eating experience. If it’s the filthy chairs or the sticky tables and sliding chairs on the greasy floor you will be disappointed. As a resident of the area, you feel you should support local businesses, but this is one to avoid. I have made the mistake of eating there three times. On the first occasion they ran out of serviettes, and we were offered toilet paper. This should have been a warning sign, but we’ve tried again. Today was probably the death nell for my dining experience at Saltdean Tavern. If you go there be prepared for disappointment. If you think no one can do a bad carvery then you’ll be sorely disappointed. Vegetables boiled to death and tasteless and a seriously limited choice. Every time I’ve been there anything that isn’t the carvery is seriously limited or unavailable. There is almost no vegetarian options and every time I’ve been half of it’s not available. The actual ambiance of the place isn’t much better. It’s generally tired and grubby. The toilets resemble the worst public toilets with a general odour of stale urine, peeling paint, blown woodwork and a generally unhygienic demeanour. You sort of expect to find graffiti and used needles but thankfully it falls short of this. The staff seem to be the only redeeming feature as they try their hardest to make the best of a bad thing. If you want one of those retro experiences from your childhood with dated surrounding and vile tasting gruel, then this is the place to go too. Given the plethora of eating experiences in Brighton I would suggest you keep on driving or catch a bus and avoid the inevitable disappointment of...
