Update. Unfortunate Experience. This should be one of the premier venues on the beach, however, a lack of organisation, process and procedure let it down. It's 27C as predicted for days & it's bedlam. Three queues, one inside and two outside but apparently both the lady behind, and me, were serially in the wrong one twice. Quite sharply told to join another one after the second and asking the cashier where I should queue to qualify to be served. Suggestions guys - put up some signage up. 'Outdoor Order &Pay Point " & "Collection Point Only' would be a start. use some tech; writing each order down on a scrap of paper with a Sharpie is a bit last century. Check out Molly's in Rottingdean for an example. have a separate ice cream queue. 4.to succeed in hospitality and catering make it easy to take people's money and ensure slick service. Lastly, it's a lovely location and an iconic building but you really need someone in charge who understands the hospitality and catering trade. A number of people walked away whilst I was there; it's a shame as it could be superb with a little thought & effort.
Update - I'm sorry, this place is off my approved list now. £3.50 for a tiny cardboard "cup" (part filled) of coffee (see photos) is not acceptable & certainly not good value, especially given the competition locally.
Historic Saltdean cafe with a boho vibe, & good coffee. Sadly, the pastries are no longer made in house. Use the new outside stall for drinks, snacks and ice creams, or dine in, (private parties by arrangement) and enjoy great views. Nice helpful staff too! Highly Recommended.
Update -Still everything as before & what a staff! Some places just have it; this one certainly does.
Update: A wonderful warm welcome for my walking group with two long tables found & excellent friendly service. We all decided to go to one of the events there as a group we were...
Read moreEXTREMELY RUDE STAFF. I went in and ordered our food, when asked for a table number I pointed towards my girlfriend was told my table number and went and took my seat.
A while later I saw the waitress, I waved to her and said ‘I think that may be our food’ to which I was greeted with the response ‘Well do you wanna tell the bar when you move!’ She shouted over the heads of another table as she barged her way past another mans back. I explained that we hadn’t moved to which she responded ‘well this isn’t your food then!’ ... it was. I repeated my order and asked if that’s what she was holding to which she replied ‘well this is table 13! Not 30!’ Speaking to me like I was incapable of basic numeracy.
I never told anyone any number, and explained to her that there may have been a mix up.
The food itself was pretty bang average at best, we use to like the breakfasts here but they don’t do them anymore as they have had to simplify there menu as it was creating delays. Clearly something is going wrong in the kitchen as well as out front.
Whilst this was going on the owner was walking about chatting to customers whilst turning off the fire alarm that had sounded twice during our visit while the staff ran around messing things up left right and centre. They messed up the cake order for the table next to us twice.
I spoke to the owner and explained the situation briefly to which his response was ‘ok thanks for letting me know, I’ll speak to her’ No real apology and no compensation offered.
A shame really, we had quite recently discovered this place a few months back and had come in a few times, and would undoubtedly be coming back a lot more but after this experience I think we’ll go elsewhere. I have worked in this industry myself for a longtime and my parents ran pubs when I was a kid, and I’ve never witnessed someone be so rude...
Read moreWe visited this establishment on Friday 28th December for a main meal lunch having checked the previous day that they did lunchtime main meals. We had been shown a sample menu which although limited was adequate. On arrival we were not offered a menu and a waitress told us what was available which effectively was a breakfast or quiche. Neither potato or chips were available. My partner ordered a breakfast with tea and I a quiche and salad with tea. We were not told there would be a delay of at least half an hour. During this period, people at the adjacent table sent their unsatisfactory meals back to the kitchen, I observed a member of staff behind the counter licking her fingers and no information was given us about the delay we should expect. In fairness, our cups of tea arrived which were very acceptable. After about half an hour we decided to leave, paid for our teas and left. The staff did apologize for the delay but seemed unable to assure is that our food would be ready "any time soon" I have twice emailed the establishment before going on to social media but have not seen a reply to my emails. We crossed the road to the Saltdean Carvery where we tucked into a main meal within minutes of arriving. Additionally we shared a bottle of quality wine which cost about60% of the White Cliffs cheapest wine! Sometimes we eat at the budget Wetherspoons where very occasionally we have been told there will be a delay. Our food has ALWAYS arrived well within the time stated. Is it too much to ask for the same service at the more 'upmarket'...
