DO NOT EAT HERE!!! (trust me & keep looking)
For those that appreciate good food and at minimum, good customer service, I STRONGLY advise you keep looking for an indian tonight. Bombay Blues is not far from this one and is very welcoming, often with complimentary brandy to finish.
So the time I took my friends into the shagor for dinner, the service was bad, passive aggressive and overall had a feeling of mental health in the air as even I couldn't stare down the creepy waiter staring at my girlfriend and I for an hour and a half. We had ordered lots of small dishes to share, which seemed to have offended the staff first of all. I asked if we could have our small plates removed from the table as to make space for the food to come, the waiter insisted otherwise, to the point were it became a little heated. We ended up putting them on the table next to us as there was no space once the "food" had arrived... as i'd anticipated. With all the staff standing around staring at us we ate the BLAND, POOR QUALITY CURRY with our meal unchecked and 4 empty glasses.
2 days ago, I gave them a 2nd chance because i'm a nice guy, and ordered a takeaway. £27 later, the Bread was stone cold, onion bhaji stale and the food lacking any trace of spice and flavour. I spoke to the manager on the phone who chose to argue for 15 minutes and insult me rather than rectify / understand my point of view. I asked for my money back, a part refund and even offered to walk the food back to the restaurant. The manager was shouting and interrupting me on the phone and told me that "it's not your kind of food!" touching close to RACISM there chaps. I was told that the next time i ordered there he would give me extra bread. Would you order from there again after this? No refund was given.
shagor - Keep your £27...I have a feeling you'll need it!
Every negative has a positive: Once this food leaves your system you can smile and flush the toilet, knowing that it is now...
Read moreOrdered from Shagor in Westcliff on a cold Wednesday night. It was one of those evenings where you just want something comforting, rich, and full of flavour. Sadly, what we got was the exact opposite.
The kebab starter was the only highlight—warm, well-spiced, and gave us a brief flicker of hope. But everything else quickly unravelled.
The butter chicken was bland and watery, more like a pink soup with floating chicken than a proper curry. The tandoori mixed grill was sparse and joyless: two small pieces each of lamb and chicken tikka, one sheekh kebab, and a strange-tasting chicken leg that felt like an afterthought. No char, no smoke—just meat on a tray, looking lost.
The Nagri Meat Jholl was a greasy, under-spiced mess. Supposed to be fiery and rich, but ended up flat and oily. No heat, no depth, no pleasure. I kept eating out of stubbornness, not satisfaction.
Sundries didn’t help. The naan was cold and tough, the rice forgettable, and the saag aloo—while actually alright—wasn’t enough to save the meal.
It wasn’t just underwhelming—it was actively dismal. We paid a fair bit for it, too, which made the disappointment sting even more.
We sat in silence after eating, full but unsatisfied, both knowing we’d made a mistake. The kind of meal that leaves you feeling like you’ve wasted your evening and your money.
We should’ve...
Read moreOrdered a takeaway from this place lastnight and cannot believe the customer service. We ordered mains of chicken korma and chicken tikka jalfrezi. When the order arrived we found it was a vegetable korma instead. Fair enough we thought, we all make mistakes. So I called up and spoke to whoever answered the phone. The guy was rude, aggressive in manner and had a raised tone suggesting that we had ordered it wrong when we knew we hadn’t. He argued that it would be half hour for a replacement... we asked for a new rice to go with it as the old one would be cold by the time it got here - to which he refused! Despite it being their mistake!!! We stated that we would give back the wrong item because it wasn’t like we were trying it on, although we were made to feel like that. When the order did arrive, the delivery driver insisted on constantly holding the buzzer down waking 2 babies up before handing us the replacement with a smirk on his face saying “ENJOY”. We suspect that our food was tampered with due to the mannerisms and lack of any sincerity or apology, so we ended up throwing it away. The delivery laughed as he walked away. Reading some of the other reviews below, I am certainly inclined to agree - the customer service is absolutely terrible and these staff members clearly cannot be trusted to behave professionally....
