Well, this is unfortunately one of the worst places I have ever had the misfortune to stay. A used shower gel container in the bathroom indicated it had not been cleaned properly. The room itself, though decorated tastefully had a strange smell when we walked in. The mattress was cheap and uncomfortable and sagged in the middle. The staff seemed rushed off their feet and overall fairly disinterested. At first we thought the breakfast was good - until we were served mouldy toast. The location of the inn is probably the best thing about it although be warned that if you stay in the centre of Fowey it will most probably be a noisy night (the seagulls were loud enough to keep us up most of the night though this is not the fault of the Ship Inn)
The biggest problem however which is absolutely inexcusable was that the room was advertised as en suite but on check in we were given a room with a separate bathroom across the hall. The hallway we had to cross was not in a quiet corner of the property either - in fact to reach the "en suite" bathroom from our room we had to pass right in front of the pub kitchen and in view of people sitting in the pub having their dinner. Whilst struggling to lock the bathroom door (we had to lock and unlock from both sides every time) I had to redirect a lost drunk who had wandered over from the bar looking for the toilets. When I mentioned that the room had been advertised as en suite and we had been unhappy with the bathroom situation, we were told that it was the fault of Booking.com who had not advertised the...

Liked · Pros Location is excellent Jamie went out of his way to make sure we had dinner waiting for us when we arrived late Food is locally sourced Tea and coffe facilities in the room
Disliked · This is a pub stay but needs more attention to the actual building as it’s borderline unsafe Cons Floor to the room very uneven, steps where you can easily trip on This might be a 600 years old building but it is £100 a night and customers really cannot afford to break a leg on your uneven floor. On both days our forearms got stuck to the table, literally not a joke, due to the table being so greasy and sticky from what we believed to be beer from the night before. During this health concerned times due to Covid , hygiene should be a must but unfortunately not here. As per the table being sticky due to the varnish reacting to the cleaner, I call it a lie because we wiped it and the wipes came out black with dirt. If you get room number 4 the bathroom is not in the room but across the hall, not a good sight for other customers to see you walking to it in your underwear. Bed is very uncomfortable The doors are very tatty and falling apart Food inconsistent, mushrooms at breakfast were inedible as someone had drowned them in salt On the first day we were offered to sit at a table where it was raining on from the ceasing, we told the waitress and we were moved. In this line of business is paramount to accept constructive criticism, but I guess this is not the case for this...
Read moreThis pub is situated near the river in the town of Fowey, it is a very warm and friendly pub on two floors.
It's the oldest pub in Fowey and speaks of John Rashleigh building the property in the 15 hundreds before being converted to a public house.
It's a fascinating building and very period for the time, loads to see in the pub while you while away time chatting over the decor.
First the great, the food is fantastic, the fish pie is too good to put into words, all dishes looked in good proportions and of quality. Service was friendly and helpful and dogs are allowed to sit in the dining area with you.
Talking of dogs they actually do a full dining experience for dogs, yes you heard correct, starters mains and puddings washed down with a dog beer! Our dog loved the fish dinner and the beer (non alcoholic) nothing was left behind.
You order at the bar which can be busy in the evenings but that's nothing new.
The only point I'd raise is the toilets, the men's isn't great and the females Loo is very small, it could do with a tidy up, but don't let that detract from the overall experience, it's a fantastic pub and I'd go as far to say the fish pie is probably the best I've ever had!!
Definitely worth a visit, a piece of English history, a warm welcome and a proper dog's dinner make it a great night out.
Enjoy the atmosphere and food in great...
