The beauty of 'spoons is that you know what you are going to get, you know it will be quick service and you know the food will be pleasant and nothing beats it for value for money. We go regularly and I usually have the same meal...steak, mushrooms, peas and grilled tomatoes with an extra side salad and coleslaw (my companions get my chips), which varies in quality depending on which staff are in. On a good day everything is perfect and there is nowhere better to eat. However, I rarely get the same standard. Once the steak was bashed so thin to make it took bigger. Today the tomatoes were raw with no disguise made to pretend it had been near the grill. There were no more than a teaspoon of peas which had been so vastly overcooked that they barely had colour (maybe the remains of a previous diners plate???). The steak and mushroom were ok mind, although none of us could identify the sauce that was presented with it. A watered down mixture of mayo, mustard and dijon?? None of the tables in our section had been cleared of used crockery when we sat down. The tables didn't get a wipe the whole time we were in. I had to peel my menu off the table leaving half of it on the veneer. Having said all that, yes we will be back, because as I said it's cheap, cheerful...
Read moreTo be fair the service that was provided was prompt & professional. The table where we sat was rotten, as was about 5 or 6 tables in the same area. We cleaned our own. Ordered the food and drink accordingly. Sat & waited a short period of time. While we drank our coffee. The coffee from the machine was only a tad more than warm, which in all honesty was a dam sight warmer than the breakfast. Beans, were stone cold, fried eggs, were more raw than cooked, sausages, cold, black pudding, warm, bacon, cold, the toast was the warmest thing on the plate. I ate half a slice of toast, half a sausage, 2 fork full of beans and left the rest. It was awful. The other breakfast was left after a mouthful of toast, a mouthful of sausage, (then put back on the plate). Half a piece of bacon eaten. By far the worst food I've eaten in a long time. Absolutely dreadful. Defo not recommended. Even the people were on the dirty tables waiting for their services were wishing they hadn't ordered. This was the parting comments between us, as we left the venue. It cost us nearly £15 to clean a dirty table, order some dreadful food, then leave. We left Wetherspoons and went to Sainsbury's, to which I made a hasty retreat for the toilet where I got to say hello to my breakfast again....
Read moreThe place is filthy. They do not clean the tables properly and the place just looks as though it could do with the cleaners going in and stripping it back right down to the bone and starting again.
There is dust everywhere, food thrown on the floor and left, chairs that have the previous occupants mucky shoe prints embellished on them from where they have had their feet resting on the chairs, along with the food and grease that has been left and not cleaned off. The menus that are on the table look as though they have been through the hands of someone who as not seen soap and water for weeks. The place is dire and extremely dirty. How they can put a 5 rating in their window for food and hygiene rating is a joke, I know I have worked in the food and beverage industry and this beggars belief.
Having seen the bar and seating areas I would certainly not feel safe ordering food here, although I have never seen inside the kitchen and food prep areas, if the previous is anything to go by then don't.
If you want to see how it should be done then I suggest you try the Wetherspoons in Crook, contrast and compare, The manager their certainly knows what they are doing and clearly the staff training and expectations are better.
Thanks,...
