Chatham, Wetherspoon / The Thomas Waghorn 23.02.2025
I can easily give 10 stars for the design, architecture, ambiance, and location. The food is okay, although sometimes the wait is a bit too long. I'm writing this review in the hope that the management of this lovely location will see it. Recently, I had breakfast with my family in Chatham, including two family members from Romania. We easily found a place on the ground floor near the back exit, which is my favorite area. All of us ordered a traditional English breakfast along with drinks. When the drinks arrived, the waiter—a young, slim boy—brought the tray to our table, but one of the drinks had already spilled onto it. Instead of addressing the issue, the indifferent waiter simply left the tray on the table and walked away as if nothing had happened. I was hoping he would notice my reaction, apologize, and clean the tray, but he didn't care. I had to go to the bar myself to ask for tissues and clean it up. I then told the waiter that what he did was unprofessional and that next time, he should use common sense and clean the tray. Accidents happen, which is not a problem, but the way he handled the situation—leaving us with all the messy glasses—was unacceptable. I ended up cleaning the glasses myself just to be able to place them on the table properly. This is not my first time visiting this location, but I want to mention in my review that the staff is poorly trained and unmotivated, which puts a black mark on an otherwise...
Read moreMe and my friends decided to celebrate our last day off college by having a nice meal and a couple of drinks. This however turned into a horrible and stressful experience. We had booked a table for ten and we asked to be shown to our table as there were no staff of the floor, however we were told to find it ourselves. When we finally did find our table, I used the app to order drinks and food. I ordered some pitchers for me and my friends (because some of my friends weren’t drinking they didn’t bother bringing there ID) this then turned into an issue, even though they had a photo of their ID the staff refused to serve us our drinks. They told me that I will get my money back within 3-5 working days but that also means that I could not buy any drinks or more food for our table as that was our budget. Even though I couldn’t get the pitchers I had ordered, we were told that we could order individual drinks for the table. This infuriated me and I had to rely on my friends to buy my drinks even though it was supposed to be my treat. I am very angry with the staff and when I asked if I came here with my kids and decided to buy a pitcher for myself and my partner, they didn’t know how to respond. I lost £65 which I now have to wait 3-5 days to get back and I am fuming. Our great night out turned into a nightmare thanks to the staff at Chatham weather spoons. The food and drinks were good and cheep but the...
Read moreThe pub itself smelt like a damp wee show. All staff were miserable and unwelcoming. Beer smelt like sick and tasted off. Lines clearly aren't being cleaned as they should. Told them and said to just smell it you can smell its off. Staff member miserably just replaced it with the exact same beer rather than offering a different one. The same beer would be the same re pouring it does nothing, its not the glass... Second one was exactly the same, smelt like sick and tasted off. As a pub manager and personal license holder myself this is a huge thing with beers not being good and tasting off with poor cleaning standards. Full line clean is needed as it stinks. All our food was cold but due to small lunch break and the wait we just gave up as staff were unhappy and not bothered either way so ate it anyway. They lost a drink order aswell as they were more worried about ID'ing us all who are 26 plus than actually getting drinks to us. All tables weren't cleaned, old plates of food on the bar and just unfriendly atmosphere in general. Probably the worst spoons I've ever been to so far. Wouldn't go back. Shame as our uni is only down the road but no chance. The mast and Rigging are short drive away is far better. Clearly no cleaning standards or drive to have a nice clean environment. Spoons usually hold high standards by company procedure from my experience but this...
