We had a wonderful 7 night stay at the Three Swans Hotel in Hungerford. We wanted to stay in a more quaint type of hotel/inn that was near a train station & centrally located, not too far from London. It was our goal to have easy access to the English countryside & to do day trips from a "home base". Price was a consideration for us & this place fit our needs perfectly - reasonably priced for the area & for the type of hotel that it is. The property is old & has the quaint look on the outside that we were after. It is well-kept & very clean. The interior decor is modernized & up-to-date, but offers a cozy atmosphere that this type of establishment should have. The pub/restaurant eating area has several rooms & a patio area for outdoor dining as well. The food we had was very good, a bit on the pricey side, but at least very tasty. Our room was on the first floor, up the staircase & down a winding hallway with a few two-step landings in between. It would be somewhat challenging if you can't manage steps. Our room was very nice & extremely clean. It was not a huge space but certainly adequate for our needs. An ironing board, iron & hairdryer were found in the armoire & there was a kettle with teas & biscuits on a small table in one corner. A desk with a phone a lamp were on one side of the bed & a small nightstand on the other side. One downside was, there was no luggage rack or any other table for laying out a suitcase, so the ironing board made do. I'm a fussy one about the bathroom facilities & this one passed with flying colors! The room was decent sized and very well-lit (lighting is usually poor in hotels & makes for difficult makeup application). It had a nice tub with a tall rain shower head AND a handheld spray shower. Plenty of hot water too. My only critique about the shower is that it could use a couple of grab bars - one at the back for getting in & out, as the tub was very deep & it would be safer, & one placed in the middle of the wall so there would be something to hang on to while scrubbing up. There was a nice shelf for toiletries. It was tastefully decorated & overall a great bathroom! The room had air conditioning which was needed since we happened to be there during a warm spell. The staff was very friendly & accommodating, but most were fairly young folks who weren't always able to answer questions about parking & few other things. Overall, a great stay & would...
Read moreAfter booking through Expedia and paying for half of my stay upfront, on checking in the hotel informed me they hadn't received any payment and full payment was expected., despite me having several types of proof i had paid. We agreed to pay half (as i genuinely owed) on check in through my credit card. The girl checking in promised she would call expedia to sort out the rest and call me with any updates. During my 2 night stay, i had no updates from any staff at all until check out. It took me over 90 minutes to check out. After speaking with Sam for over 90 minutes, whoalso had to call expedia, who also confirmed we had paid them in full and in fact three swans owed us a refund of the £213, the hotel could of claimed this back from expedia as they had not been paid from them. After 90 minutes, i had to leave to collect my children and Sam promised to contact me with any developments....
On my 4 hour journey home, i find a notification from my credit card where the hotel(Sam) had proceeded to request an extra 3213 without my approval and not even having the decency to call me (as promised) to discuss any updates or developments. I find this absolutely disgusting, dishonest and immoral. Especially after expedia agreed we had paid in full and told the hotel this. In the current climate where every penny counts, the hotel have now charge me an extra £430, so basically doubled my rate!!!!
Since have got home, i cannot (conveniently) get through to anyone at the hotel itself and i received an email today washing their hands of the responsibility, ;leaving me over £400 out of pocket. Expedia tell you to dispute it with the hotel and the hotel don't actually care!
The hotel pretended to care whilst i was standing in front of the hotel manager Sam, but as soon as i left, he charged my card!!! DO NOT TRUST AT ALL!!!
And to add to the above insult, we had people having sex with their window open all night - with children staying in the next room. Not one person in the hotel thought it prudent to ask them to quiten down.

Read moreOur first visit to The Three Swans Hotel, Hungerford.|First impressions very positive, excellent location and very pleasant interior. We were welcomed by reception staff who provided assistance with luggage to our room. ||Our accommodation was a deluxe double room and though the room(s) were clean, the three room layout was not very practical and lacked the standard and facilities anticipated. There was no drawer space for ones bits & pieces, only six hangers in the small separate closet, two easy chairs in the very large bath only room, and in the third room was a loo and a very small free standing shower cubicle with very poor shower flow, and nowhere to place shower cleansing/compliment products. At least the large bed was reasonably comfortable. This room is advertised as a Deluxe Room, based on our visit this particular room was extremely disappointing.!||Room housekeeping was excellent and the complimentary water along with the tea/coffee offering were replenished every day – excellent service.||The service in the bar and dining area left a great deal to be desired – tables not being cleared after use, glasses and food plates piling up, staff appeared to just ignore the situation. The same lack of attention and dis-organised attitude revealed itself at both breakfast and dinner. Tea cups with no spoon ( because there are no clean spoons available ), steak dishes served without steak knife being provided ( customers had to ask ) empty fruit juice carafes at breakfast yet staff walking past all the time ( customers had to ask ) used tables not being cleared and re-laid –“ I will be back in a minute” was the standard phrase as customers asked for service. ||Though we enjoyed our short stay at The Three Swans Hotel there were aspects of our stay, the room and dis-organised staff service that did not match up to the advertised quality standard and presentation. Would think twice about returning or...
