So after hearing lots of recommendations about this place me and my partner went. It was a last minute on Saturday night, we phoned ahead and said they could fit us in.
When we arrived, we weren't welcomed at all, the man pointed to the table, didn't offer to take our coats or sit us down and give our menus how you'd normally be waited on. Just felt like being in a cafe.
At this point I must say that I don't rate the the recently refurbishment it's drab although the toilets are spotless which is why they earn a star.
Everything seemed very rushed and unprofessional. The drinks order came and we order the poppadoms and pickle tray, this was okay.
We only had a main meal. My partner ordered chicken tikka masala which as most you know isnt a hot curry. And I ordered Punjabi chicken. When the food came the waiter rushed over basically threw the stuff on the table. My partner tried her dish which was almost a Madras in strength which was far too hot for her. I complained immediately and another waiter came over and apologies and says there been a mix up. He asked me how mine was. And in all honesty it was tasteless but was offered for it to go back to add more spice to it. I said it was fine.
In overall one of the waiters was very apologetic and took 4 pounds off the bill. But I'm sorry it just wasnt up to standards that people have...
Read moreFantastic food and very polite staff. Couldn't fault the food, price, service or the presentation of the restaurant which is why I give this place 3 stars. I would return again with no hesitation.
The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of the time it took to have our food served. We pre-booked a table for 20 as this was a joint birthday meal. We got sat on two tables of 10. The first table of 10 had finished their meals before we even had ours put on the table (which was around 45 minutes after ordering (two pints and 2 shots later).
The table which has finished were politely asked to wait in the waiting area until our table had finished so they could re-arrange the tables to seat new customers.
Now don't get me wrong, I know business is business and they are busy on a Saturday, but this isn't really the way to go about things when seating a party of 20 people, all paying for drinks, starters and main meals. I think the total bill came to well over £500.
I think the restaurant needs to turn down large parties altogether to save on this kind of negative feedback.... or learn to acknowledge that we're paying customers just like everyone else. The table of 6 people sat next to us for example were sat down before we all arrived, and were still sat eating after we all...
Read moreSome of the best Indian food I've had across America and England, and I eat a lot of Indian food. Such a huge variety of curries, and they really do taste different. Each one is super flavorful, and I love their ability to make it as mild or spicy as you want. I really think you can't go wrong just trying things here, but I recommend the Madras and Desi Handi especially.
Also love that everything comes out steaming hot -- so hot it's placed on metal pedestals. Keeps the curries hot much longer.
And the portions! Normally I order 2-3 curries per person at Indian restaurants. Here, each one is a big enough meal on its own. I do wish there were 1/2 portions, so we could share and try more things, but I appreciate the amount you get for your money here.
I will say, I didn't love the chicken tikka masala my friend got. It was a bit too on the sweet side for me. And that's normally a dish I love. So maybe just don't order that.
And I do wish they had dosas, although I know that's South Indian. It's just a nice gluten-free "bread" option for people like me who can't eat...
