Day trip from London idea: Eastbourne🚂 ad Save this for your next visit! This BEAUTIFUL seaside town in less than 90 minutes via a direct @southernrailuk train from London Victoria and it’s only £3.95 each way if you buy tickets in advance with a railcard! It’s a simple, easy and stress-free train journey! Here are 8 budget-friendly things to see, do and eat on a day trip to Eastbourne:

1. Go for a seaside stroll around Eastbourne pier, this iconic landmark shows off a Victorian style pier which stretches over 300m long with restaurants and souvenir shops 2. Enjoy afternoon tea at Victorian Tearoom where you can catch a great view of the coast with tea and cake :) 3. You can’t skip the arcade while you’re here! I did better at the Coconut Shy than expected and it was only £1 per play!
 4. Shop from independents, art galleries and local boutiques in Little Chelsea, a stretch of quaint Victorian style shopping streets
 5. Whisk yourself to Sovereign Harbour by the marina where you’ll find waterfront restaurants 6. Enjoy a generous seafood lunch from Pablo’s, a Mediterranean restaurant overlooking the harbour. I had these big, juicy garlic prawns and shared a big plate of seafood pasta that came with green mussels, king prawns and clams with a LOT of parmesan on top 7. Soak in some culture at Towner - an award-winning gallery and community space showcasing world-class exhibitions and modern British art – it’s free admission and I could’ve stayed here for hours
 8. Finish off with a drink at gastro-pub The Stage Door - frequented by locals and conveniently located to the theatre if you want to include a show
If you’re feeling active and the weather is on your side, head to one of the most BEAUTIFUL sights in the UK: Beachy Head for incredible coastal views – perfect if you want to extend your day trip to an overnight stay or weekend break to easily hop on a direct train back to London the day after! Enjoy your visit to the Sunshine Coast and bring on more fun, affordable day trips on Southern Railway. See you in the next one! #EveryStopIsAStory #eastbourne #londontravel #londondayout #uktrains #uktravel #ukdaysout #traveluk #daytrip #placestotravel

Eastbourne is a lovely find when it comes to discovering a gem of English culture, and walking along the pier needing a bit of respite we ventured into the Victorian Tea Rooms. You could say a tea room was an original English cafe, way back in the day. The architecture and decor of this venue gives you a grandiose feel, with the bright white walls, and enormouse golden chandeliers; before seeing the beautiful framing of the English coast, and seaside town of Eastbourne. The atmosphere is very calming, a place where you typically would have a relaxing social meet with good company. On the menu are tea room classic options for tea, plus a variety of modern options. There are also the options of cakes and sandwiches; so if you're after "afternoon tea", this is the place to be. A waitress came to our table to take our order, being very friendly and pleasant. We only ordered a coffee and a quick bite to eat, opting for a seafood sandwich and choosing for it to be made with brown bread that was a really nice touch. Unexpectedly it came accompanied with a little salad and a handful crisps, that made us feel like receiving a little treat in true English fashion. It was very nice, simple and classically English. Next time I'm back in Eastbourne or if I see a tea room on a pier, I'm definitely getting afternoon tea; something I've never experienced, to help keep this tradition alive!

We recently visited The Victorian Tea Rooms and had a wonderful time. This charming spot offers a truly traditional tea experience, with an inviting atmosphere and a menu full of classic favourites. The décor is quaint and perfect for those who enjoy a bit of vintage charm, and the service was friendly and attentive throughout. The selection of teas was excellent, and we were impressed with the quality of the sandwiches and cakes — all freshly made and beautifully presented. The scones were a particular highlight, served warm with jam and cream, just as they should be. It’s clear that they take great care in providing a genuine, high-quality afternoon tea experience. Whether you're a fan of classic tea rooms or simply looking for a relaxing place to enjoy a tea break, The Victorian Tea Rooms is definitely worth a visit. It's a great spot for a little indulgence in a lovely, traditional setting.

Took my daughter here for afternoon tea to celebrate her GCSE exam results. We had originally booked but arrived early so asked if we could eat early.. they wasn't sure so the waitress then went off to ask someone else, when she came back she said yes sit there and pointed to a table. We waited a while to be served. On which we ordered the afternoon tea for 2 people, she told us we could order 1 sandwich each, I scone each and 1 slice of cake each, was wasn't asked what tea we would like or if we wanted any other drinks.. 15 mins later we were served out afternoon tea with pg tips in a white teapot (I was expecting a gold elephant as shown in pictures and website). The sandwich was ok, nothing special, the scone was warm, and the slice of cake was just a slice of cake.. we asked for our teapot to be refilled as its unlimited tea, to realised all they do is add more hot water and not refresh the teabags, so it was literally like drinking hot water.. so we didn't drink anymore tea.. we waiting for over half an hour to get a waitress attention to pay the bill... it wasn't busy. The afternoon tea was £20 per person.. and definitely not worth it.. ive had plenty of afternoon tea in my time.. and that has got to be the most expensive for what you got.. and totally not worth the money.. I felt really disappointed. even my daughter was disappointed. Save your money and go somehwere else for afternoon tea.. £40 for warm water, a sandwich, a scone and a bit of cake.. disgusting to think how many people are being ripped off. Specially all the elderly that use...

I'm sorry to say we went today. We haven't been to Eastbourne for years and thought while we were on the pier we would pop in here for a drink and cake. It was me, my daughter and my parents, the tearooms were not busy and when we walked in their was a sign saying please wait to be seated. We waited and waited, there were at least 4 staff members walking about not one greeted us, so after some time we gave up and sat down on the nearest clear table. Once we sat the young guy (sorry don't know his name) gave us the menus, he quickly came back over and we ordered 3 hot drinks (2 hot chocolates and a coffee) and 2 cakes, he wrote it down, read our order back to us and then went off. Well we sat there, and sat and sat waiting over 15 minutes, he walked past us and I asked him how long our drinks and cake would be he said "il go check" he never returned to us. We then noticed another table come in and they ordered drinks, they got their drinks almost immediately so when the staff that gave them their drinks walked past us I said excuses me we ordered way before them we haven't got our drinks and cake, it was only 3 drinks and 2 cakes. Eventually she came back to us and said we don't have a ticket for your order!! By this point we had been sat there over 25 minutes since we ordered 3 drinks and 2 cakes, she said we will do it now but by this point we had had enough, we said no thank you we won't bother we been here over 25 minutes!! If your going to have it as table service sort this out!!! We will NEVER be back and...

Possibly the worst service I've ever experienced. We walked in and asked if we should order at the till and were told no, they would come to the table to take our order and to sit anywhere. We had a double buggy and the only table available without blocking the aisles had plates on it from the people before us. We sat down at the table and waited. After a few minutes the waitress came over, rolling her eyes, started clearing the table and sarcastically commented "I take it these aren't yours" We ordered 3 sandwiches and whilst the bread on my husband's and sons sandwiches were fine, mine was completely flat like itd been steamrollered! After finishing eating and feeding our sons, we tried to get a waitresses attention to get the bill but everyone seemed to be avoiding us. Eventually my husband managed to get one of their attention but rather than come over, she started whispering with one of the others! When she eventually came over she said to my husband "do you want something?" And we asked for the bill to which she said "go to the till to pay, I only came over because you were looking at me"!! There was no signs or anything to say we should go up to pay/have the bill and seeing as we had been told not to order at the till, it was reasonable to think we would get the bill there. We were waiting a good 20 mins to half hour before she even came over. The staff were rude, unfriendly and uncaring, the food was ok at best. It was our first time visiting the Victorian tea rooms and it will most definitely be our...
