Wow the worst food and service I have experience in many years! Ordered Lasagne as wanted something wholesome and got it and hour later after initially being served to me after 40mins but the young server put the plate down and a bad angle and the chips spilled all over the table and she was about to walk away! The table is obviously not clean enough to eat my chips off, but she seemed this was okay just to say sorry and tried to leave. I asked for fresh and the correct sweat potato chips that I ordered, so she took it away. 20mins later I asked twice if my meal was okay/ready and twice I was told they were just plating it up. So after an hour it finally came out and wow, how could any server / chef in the world think what they were serving a customer was acceptable! Obviously they must have put it back in the oven, so now I'm unsure how long it had been cooking for, maybe an hour and it was burnt to a crisp, shrivelled mess! I had driven for work 3hours, was so hungry, I gust eat everything else and a small middle part of the shrivelled lasagne and left... see pics and video. I never complain, I am not good and confrontation, so didn't complain, but I will never visit an Ember Inn ever again in my life.

It was the Eat Out campaign and it was fully booked. They suggested to come in and eat outside so we did. We thought it would get chilly in the evening so we sat under the heaters. After kindly requesting it to be turned on during our starter, it didn’t happen then there was a waiting time and our mains came out. Not sure where the first person we asked went so I asked the person who served our mains who told us that it was broken. But there is another spot where heaters are working so he helped us move our stuff to this place. Food is tasty and order at the bar. There is an app that they require you to download and fill out a Covid 19 form. Bit annoying that I had to download an app as I had limited phone memory. Preferred if it was a QR code to an online form rather than an app download. Menu is general pub food which was hearty but wished they put more gravy. Pub has free parking onsite and plenty outdoor space- just not enough working heaters.

Our cancer group had lunch here. Ross, Lucas, and Adam looked after all our needs. Due to our health needs and being unable to go up the stairs to the bar, they took our order at the table and brought everything to us. They kept checking if we needed anything else. They were polite, friendly, and very professional. Look forward to trying more of the menu next time. What I found good at this venue was that the toilets were clean and disabled accessible. The tables allowed wheelchair access. Staff members move other furniture to make more space. On each table was a caddy with sauces and menus. These menus were clean and not sticky. The food arrived hot and well presented, as in the pictures on the menu. Well done to all the team. The new menu is out, and I had a lovely Chicken Caesar salad. Then, to follow, I had a lovely creme brulee which snapped when tapped

Overall highly underwhelming. The venue was clean and tidy on a quiet Monday evening, atmosphere pleasant as staff topped off the open fire with fresh logs. We attended for my niece's birthday, ordering a celebratory meal which is sadly where things came undone.

I had requested sausage and mash, only to be told that section of the menu was not being served at that time (6:30pm). Frustrating, as this was not indicated on the menu, unlike for example the lunch section which clearly stated it was served till 5pm. More frustrating still given the "out of stock" debacle that was about to unfold.

So I figured I'd try a mixed grill instead. Out of stock. The steak, perhaps? Out of stock. Ok, ribs and wings? You guessed it, out of stock. Eventually hitting upon a menu item actually in stock, I ended up with hunters chicken, as did 50% of our 10 head table, such was the widespread scale of unavailability. Our order was also met with the bombshell of "sorry, there is quite a wait for food". Service took well over an hour, already protracted by the back of forth "out of stock" runs to the table.

What eventually arrived was the most underwhelming, feeble looking piece of chicken, hidden somewhere under a small slice of bacon, that I actually felt sorry for it. My order was of course wrong, as I had asked for peas to be substituted with beans (or just removed). I got peas. Similarly my wife paid extra for sweet potato fries and got oven chips (a separate bowl of sweet fries was provided when error highlight to staff). My sister-in-law's carbonara contained the grand sum of what we reconstructed to be one medium sized mushroom and a small slice of bacon, diced, and was what can only be described as grey in [and incredibly unappealing] appearance. I will say those that had a burger option did enjoy them. I tried a small bite of my wife's cow and chic burger and regretted my choice with hindsight (she probably got more chicken than I did too...).

A terrible dining experience overall which was such a shame given the efforts of the front of house staff to provide a pleasing and friendly place to be. My thanks to them for their efforts albeit I doubt I'll dine here again...

The Wheatsheaf is another long established public house in Grimsby, it's gone through several transformations in its history, today it seems to be focused on serving good food and beer,it's part of the Ember Inns group. It's quite large nowadays having been opened up into one large area only being divided by different levels. It's clean and nicely decorated with fresh, light modern look, but still has some of the warm feel of a traditional pub. It's menu's are numerous, covering modern and classic meals and they are available online, they include a vegetarian/vegan menu and a children's menu. It's serving food from breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon through to evening meals. There's a good selection of hot and cold foods on offer that caters for most tastes. The staff are very friendly and happy to help, you order and pay upfront at the bar. It has good clean restrooms and facilities for the disabled, though wheelchair access is restricted to the lowest level due to stairs. There's a good large car park at the rear, and there are tables and seating outside here. Payment by credit cards are acceptable here and it has a 5* food hygiene rating. Food review March 2019. My quest for good quality fish and chips continues and I found some here. I went for the beer battered cod,a nicely decorated place arriving after a short wait, nice crispy chips, good flavoured mushy peas and some really good quality tartare sauce included. I will admit that cod is rarely my first choice but it was good here, being a skinless fillet with a nice white colour, moist and had all the flavour that a good fillet of cod could possibly offer. I couldn't say that I could really taste the pale ale in the batter however it was still nice and crispy. I paid £9.79 for my fish and a further £1.99 for my tea,so reasonably priced.A really pleasant place to eat. In the past I've tended to avoid fish served in pubs especially those run as part of a chain having being served some very poor quality fish on lot's of occasions, this definitely wasn't the case today, how times...

First visit since college days and what a pleasant surprise.

Décor : Tasteful and relaxing. Seating and tables, extremely comfortable with variations to suite all.

Disabled access : Good.

Background music : Pleasant foot tapping music at a level allowing you to talk without shouting.

Parking : Large parking area including disabled bays (lunchtime experience) although more disabled bays would be a benefit.

Cleanliness : Spotlessly clean throughout.

Utensils : Utensils are presented on a server upon ordering food and replaces the commonly used unhygienic table top bucket of utensils/sachets/serviettes".

Food : Hot/tasty/filling and satisfying. Severed well within an acceptable time (Lunchtime). One thing that stood out massively was the bread. Quality and not the usual low budget served in other chains.

Drinks : Presented in spotlessly clean glasses without rinse aid/lipstick marks. Chilled to perfection and very much enjoyed.

Staff talk "proper English" 😊 (example "Would you like to add this to your meal" instead of "Wanna add sum of this wiv it"). A pleasant bonus.

Staff were polite/professional/helpful and were smartly dressed.

Would I recommend visiting here? Without the slightest doubt.

Do we plan to return? Without the slightest doubt.

Will I receive any type of reward for this review? Absolutely NOT. Its all about giving credit to those who go the extra mile.

And to help other choose a rewarding value for money place to eat.

Its as...
