A great find in Blackburn. This Indian restaurant specialises in the cusine of Kerala and the menu offers many differences to the standard Indian restaurant menu. Don't worry though, familiar dishes are available.
My previous experience of Kerala cusines was in London at a highly rated vegetarian Kerala restaurant. That food was fantastic. Light, flavoursome and tasting really fresh. I'm pleased that Blackburn offered the same fresh tasting experience.
The menu is all tantalising and I was having a hard time deciding. I then spotted on the back page and not really advertising itself a Sadyha. Sadyha is a selection of small dishes from the menu. A tasting meal. I wasnt familiar with Sadyha but to my mind they should call it Thali. They should also make the option more prominent. I choose the non-vegetarian option for £17.99.
First dish was a potato dosa. Perfect way to start. Light, fresh spices and just really tasty. It was a wow. (If I were local I'd probably ask for a Dosa takeaway every lunchtime)
The Thali, a coconut fish curry. Chicken curry, lamb curry, a delicious Dal served with rice, paratha, poppadum and a lime pickle. All flavours, textures, aroma excellent. I don't order fish curries because they can be hit and miss. I'm going back just to order from the fish curry selection. Yes, fish curry beautiful in a coconut sauce base.
Complaint, I'd rather see chapattis on the Thali. The paratha doesn't work for using hands to eat. It was a good paratha but not for me when eating this dish.
I had a mango lassi and a salted lassi. The total bill was £22.00. Next time I'll do a Dosa and a curry.
I'll be back next time I'm...
Read moreI personally feel that this restaurant is to be closed down forever because of the following reasons; None of the staff have been qualified as per the food and safety standards. Food safety and hygiene are very poorly maintained. The food which they serve are very old like 1 week to 1 month. Its comparatively high price but less quality. Quantity of the food is not at all appropriated. They promote illegal work practices like cash in hand, manipulation in the record keeping and so on. They showed fair salary for their employees to attain UK visa so as them to reach UK. Now, the employer doesn't pay the agreed salary to the staff. I personally witnessed that a customer got a long black hair of a woman staff, from the food served. I also have seen that the staff removed a dead fly from the pre cooked chicken in my presence. The maintenance is very poor. They use the same oil for weeks...utter black colored oil....no guarantee for our health. Finally, I affirm the possibility of having rats and other incests...
Read moreFood and service was poor . Started off ..was asked what drink I wanted .so asked for half of lager came back with a pint . told them only wanted half didn’t take it back and was charged for a full pint which I had to leave it as couldn’t drink it .Then I asked for poppadoms with the chutney for a starter while we was at the table .next minute our main course came out first .I asked about the poppadoms they said they was coming now . But said wanted them before main course ..anyway still no poppadoms so gave up asking . The chicken biryani was very salty and just warm ..the actual place was like sat in a freezer very cold in fact one of the coldest restaurant I’ve ever been in . When I asked for the bill the girl came over and asked how it was I told her wasn’t happy with any of it . All she could say is that we’re short staffed.and that’s that ..but that to me has nothing to do with the food being salty or the place being cold ..or the starters not turning up etc ..very poor never go again and I wouldn’t...
