I am generally positive in my reviews and it takes a lot for me to write a negative one but, having visited here today with my Son, I can only say that it has left a bad taste in my mouth that is nothing to do with the food.
The lattes and the two pieces of tiffin were nice, though mine was a little dry and there was not the wide selection I was expecting from the photos on Facebook.
This would not have prompted a 'poor' review though if not for what happened on our leaving. As the cafe is small and there was a shortage of space I told my son to wait outside for me while I paid the bill. On hearing the door the voice of one member of staff proclaimed from behind the partition 'have they gone? They haven't paid.' On this assertion being queried by a colleague she then repeated 'that table, they've gone and they haven't paid' - all from behind the partition. At this point I piped up that I was very much still there and only 1 of us had left. The disembodied voice repeated that she had heard the door and had assumed we had gone. She then came to take my money with no apology for her error.
Various questions were raised by this; was this judgement on my 31 year old Son who was wearing a tracksuit and bringing the average age of other customers down by a good third? Was it a judgement on me (though I'm not sure for what)? Why did she assume the door going was us legging it rather than new customers coming in? Why did she not come out from behind the partition to have a look before embarrassing me infront of the other customers?
Safe to say we will not be making a return visit. Make sure you are over 50 and dress in your Sunday best before visiting if you do not want assumptions to be made about your intention to...
Read moreIn addition to being a superb location for afternoon tea, this is a morning coffee lover's sanctuary. Lloyd, the very amiable manager and barrista, trained at James Hoffman's Square Mile roasters (the mother ship for high-end coffee production) and he makes very good coffee. This is also the only place in the UK where I have been offered a V60 coffee (made by a sophisticated filter process), and it was excellent. Perfect croissants are there for breakfast as well as delicious looking filled bagels and paninis, and of course Tiffin's signature heavenly chocolate creations and cakes.
I'm very enthusiastic about this place as you can see. It shows a different side of Brid, and it's a lifeline, if like me you have been starved of coffee and good conversation on the...
