This my first time to Vernon Cottage despite being a regular visitor to the area, and I cannot believe I have missed out on this venue all this time. It's billed as a Tea room, Tavern, Restaurant and Gift shop all rolled into one. Inside is quite small but has quite a lot of seating which makes it quite cosy when it's full which created quite a nice atmosphere. I chose the Vernon pie for lunch as it was quite a cold bank holiday weekend and I needed warming up. The Vernon pie was home made and very warming on such a cold day. This was washed down with a pint of local bitter. My only gripe is that the chips on the child's meal for my son was slightly salted. It was only a little salt, but I'd rather choose to salt them myself. This is why I have given Vernon Cottage four stars. I look forward to coming back to the IOW and I will come back to Vernon Cottage for another pie. My photo was supposed to be of my meal but I was hungry and I forgot. This is what was left.

Nice pub with a nice outdoor beer garden seating arrangement. The staff and the lady that manages are all nice and friendly. During these Covid times - all seated outdoors & you have to queue one at a time to order at the Bar. Booking in advance recommended. Unfortunately, the food was a bit hit-and-miss. Some was good, but some was shall we say, straight out of the Tesco Value 99p aisle. The nachos - AVOID. Had better at Wetherspoons. Cheesy gloop ontop of the tortilla chips & the guacamole was almost certainly -no, definitely!- out of a jar and no avocados involved! The fishcakes- overpriced pap. Tesco Value 99p quality. AVOID. All in all - Okay! Post-Covid, lovely place to have a drink for sure. If eating... Just be sensible with what you order to eat. Keep it simple.

It looked like a nice place for lunch and yes it was. The garden was lovely to sit in. Loads of tables and umbrellas to keep the sun off. Lots of cosy seating under the trees. The only criticism is the garden is on a slight slope but im just splitting hairs. Staff were friendly and I would recommend going inside to look at the drinks available on draught. We ordered jacket potato with cheese and beans and a bacon and cheese baguette. A pint of moretti and a j2o. £30.80 all in. The food arrived within 10 minutes and tasted lovely. There was seating indoors if the weather turns nasty but its a lovely tea room. It got busy as we ate and looks very popular.

Having just arrived in the area for the first time. Our family of two adults and two kids found this very interesting restaurant. It feels more like your local pub, but with a good mix of class and style which is unique and comforting. I enjoyed the banter, the noise, and the atmosphere very much. The owner(s) and staff are so friendly, and helpful. We felt this place is the heart and soul of the community. Plus very family friendly. We hope to come back again if we ever visit the Isle of Wight in the future. The food is very tasty! The portions are huge! I would highly recommend the Vernon burger! The veggie sauce is awesome!

I was really quite disappointed with Vernon Cottage. We had the cream tea, and they were stingy with the clotted cream. We also ordered the sausage baguette which was literally a sausage on a dry bun. No butter or sauce or anything. The tables aren't cleared often enough so we watched a seagull eat someone's leftovers - including an empty butter wrapper :( It just felt like they delivered the bare minimum on every aspect of the experience. I won't be going back there for food. The garden is lovely though. Great place for a drink in the sunshine.

Must see traditional thatched house, with gorgeous gardens and flowers. They make the most traditional scone on the island. The owner are lovely and friendly. Food came quite quickly and it was delicious. They don’t have any of the trendy things you’d expect to find in a cafe in London, but that’s what makes this place a real gem. Don’t ask for a avo on toast, rather get the cream tea or the jacked potato. There is plenty of space if you want to sit outside.
