We live on the island and chose the Villiage Inn because the four of us wanted to go to a restaurant for my daughter in laws birthday. It was dissapointing to find the food on the menu is simply pub food. The barman was on his mobile when we walked in, he didnt even notice us. We chose a table. My chair had worn padding in the seat I had to sit on a cushion. We went to the bar to order as there was no table service. The barman brought over our cutlery and paper napkins he placed them in a heap on our table so we had to reach for them ourselves. It took a while for our food to arrive even though there was hardly any other customers. Meanwhile the barman was back on his phone behind the bar. When the food arrived. The barman put the first two plates of food in front of myself and my son then went to get the other two meals for my daughter in law and my wife. As I started my dinner the barman reached across me to serve my wifes food. No manners!. I had ordered a mixed grill. The steak was chewey I couldn't eat it. The other meat was just ok. I was dissapointed that the sausage was a small chipolata not the usual quality sausage you would expect with a mixed grill. There were no peas, onion rings or mushrooms which you would usually get with even a pub meal. My wifes lasagne did not have any sheets of pasta in it. As it turned out the Villiage Inn was not what we expected. We would have had much better meals and service in one of the many pubs on the island. We will not be recommending and will not be returning. (The sausage like meat in the photo is not a sausage its the very...
Read moreEvery year we make a point of visiting the Village in. They have always been amazing, polite and best food but obviously have fallen victim to the beat stagf leaving during furlough. This time we were massively dissapointed. When we arrived at 5.30 we were greeted by a lovely friendly manager. She sorted our drinks, found us a table. And just before she finished her shift she said good bye to us. This is when it all went down hill. The new manager on shift was the total opposite. She had a terrible attitude. If she'd been on shift at 5.30 we'd have left. As my partner was ordering food. She snapped at him after each dish he ordered. When the food arrived we were also let down. The prawn cocktail was pathetic. Just a load of small prawns in a very watery sauce. Not one king prawn in sight. The camembert was okay but also quite runny with too much honey on it but a good portion of bread to go with. The fillet steak which was our main reason to visit let us down. Medium rare we'd ordered but Medium well is what we got. The kids tomato pasta was clearly reheated as the spaghetti was all stuck together which for £9 was a let down. With the attitude of the manager we didn't bother to say anything. Put it down to experience but now need to find a new venue for our...
Read moreVERY DISAPPOINTING ! I visited this evening for the first time with 2 family members. (I live on the Island) One of us chose the Salmon dish with noodles, one had Salmon with chilli and one had the Quiche. We found 2 flies in the Salmon sauce, they were alive and swimming !! We called a member of staff to ask for a replacement meal, he said it wasn't there fault, the flies were still wriggling so must have only just landed there !!. We said t wasn't our fault either. They refused to replace the whole meal, which, in my opinion should have been the least they could do, they said they could cook fresh noodles and put the Salmon we already had on them. We said again that as we didn't know if the flies had walked on it that wasn't acceptable. They offered to cook fresh noodles with no Salmon... As I work in hospitality myself I was shocked by this, there was no real apology, no offer of a refund. I'm only glad we do not treat our customers this way. I would also like to mention that the Quiche was very hard and dry (much like a hard boiled egg). Overall, not value for money, poor service and a dissapointing experience. So on that note we would never return again and would not recommend The Village...
