Had the fish burger with chips and coleslaw And the lasagne with salad and garlic bread. All I can say was it was absolutely incredible, one of the best fish burgers and lasagne I've ever had. Being someone that lives in London and tries alot, this was not only the best I've had in the UK but the best I've had internationally (even the lasagne was so much better than the ones I've had in Italy!) Even the garlic bread is stunning, fresh garlic butter with parsley and the bread is brilliant, soft and melt in your mouth on the instead and the perfect crisp crunch crust. Honestly hats off to the chef. We loved it so much that we've sat here waiting for space to open up in our tummies to go ahead and eat more! I've never given a full five stars, but everything here was amazing, from the wonderful service, so friendly and attentive, to the beautiful food and the great atmosphere. Wish we were staying in isle of Wight longer, so we could come back here! Would've loved to try their lunch options including the cream tea made fresh by their Baker in house. Hope to come back soon again!

We live on the island and chose the Villiage Inn because the four of us wanted to go to a restaurant for my daughter in laws birthday. It was dissapointing to find the food on the menu is simply pub food. The barman was on his mobile when we walked in, he didnt even notice us. We chose a table. My chair had worn padding in the seat I had to sit on a cushion. We went to the bar to order as there was no table service. The barman brought over our cutlery and paper napkins he placed them in a heap on our table so we had to reach for them ourselves. It took a while for our food to arrive even though there was hardly any other customers. Meanwhile the barman was back on his phone behind the bar. When the food arrived. The barman put the first two plates of food in front of myself and my son then went to get the other two meals for my daughter in law and my wife. As I started my dinner the barman reached across me to serve my wifes food. No manners!. I had ordered a mixed grill. The steak was chewey I couldn't eat it. The other meat was just ok. I was dissapointed that the sausage was a small chipolata not the usual quality sausage you would expect with a mixed grill. There were no peas, onion rings or mushrooms which you would usually get with even a pub meal. My wifes lasagne did not have any sheets of pasta in it. As it turned out the Villiage Inn was not what we expected. We would have had much better meals and service in one of the many pubs on the island. We will not be recommending and will not be returning. (The sausage like meat in the photo is not a sausage its the very chewey steak.)

We are just back from our evening meal at The Village Inn for the third time in this week. These days, so many pubs have been 'modernised' to become more of a restaurant and consequently take away their ambience, cosiness and the all-important friendliness one finds in a local tavern. The Village Inn has exceptionally friendly service, superb beers and really delicious food at very reasonable prices. A special thank you to Lisa for looking after us on two of the days and to the rest of the staff who make this pub worth travelling back to Shanklin for!

Nice cosy pub with fairly good food but unfortunately quite poor service. To be fair they were very busy on the night of our visit but even after reminders things were forgetten about - meals for some of group not arriving; asked three times to have the table cleared and it was still not completely done. The staff spend too much time taking to each other and not enough time walking the tables to see if anyone needs anything. The menu prices are fairly expensive so overall not good value.
