Overall experience was good. The service was excellent but the food could be better, which given the price and "look" of the restaurant and presentation of the food you would have expected more. I had the crab cakes followed by the lamb canons and finished with the fruit crumble for dessert. My wife shared the crab cakes with me and then had the steak and then the cheese cake.
The crab cakes were good but needed more of a crust and more seasoning. Both the lamb and the steak needed seasoning and we're a little overdone to our requests of medium steak and pink lamb, but to be fair this varies depending on where you go.
Presentation was great but the flavour wasn't there to back it up (in my opinion) the raspberry and port sauce didn't add anything to the lamb and mash. The steak didn't have a sauce. The crab cakes needed more spice and lemon. The desserts were great though. Cheese cake was creamy and cheesy and the fruit crumble was sweet, sharp and fruity.
Overall my Pendleton's experience was good but if they want to be fine or finer dining than what's on offer in Shanklin the food needs to go up a level. At the moment it's standard food cooked to a good standard, good but not great and I felt that I would probably get the same level at a gastro pub but more expensive. Also after we finished there was nobody to thank us and show us out which isn't a huge deal but it feels...
Read moreWhat a fantastic resturant! Not having been before, we took a note of the telephone number (it was closed at the time) and called from our hotel to make a reservation and, was lucky enough to book a table. The inside is tastefully decorated, clean and tables well spaced. We were greeted by a member of staff who took us to our table (transpired he was the owner!), where he informed us of the soup of the evening and the fresh fish available. The menu isn't substantial, but adequate and provides a good selection. We were left to make our choices of food and during this time our drinks order was taken. Once our food order was taken we had a reasonable wait for our meals to be served, freshly cooked, smelling divine and very well presented, too. The food was very tasty and cooked to perfection. At no time did we feel rushed between courses to make a selection for the next.
If there was one shock, it was the price! How reasonable the overall cost of a 3 course meal and drinks, for a couple was, expecting it to be far more! We received our itemised bill along with 2 wonderful chocolates. We would definitely recommend this Al A Carte resturant with its fine food and wines. Thank you Pendletons, we will call again on our next...
Read moreI'd seen a few negative reviews for this restaurant and decided to ignore them, I wish I hadn't. Although our starters were fairly nice, ordering a steak was a mistake. We asked for it to be medium rare and it came well done without an ounce of pink to it and even less flavour, it was accompanied by a grilled tomato, mushroom and mashed potato hash type mix, certainly not worth £24. We addressed this with the waitress who seemed to ignore the issue and was then surpried when we later didn't wish to pay for the uneaten meal. The owner came to us who argued how the steak was cooked and even brought it back from the kitchen to show us but in his opinion his 2 years at college, as he told us, knew more than my eye sight. His attitude was appalling and he clearly can not take constructive criticism as any good business owner should. I would not recommend this restaurant if you're visiting the island, that is if it's still open in the future. Please listen to the other negative reviews, average over-priced food...
