Headed into Shanklin desperate for some Thai food, the intention to eat at the Thai Mukda (party of 2). Prior to eating we walked down the the Rock Shop (open until 8 on Friday) and just happened to pass the Black Cat. Decided to eat here as seemed more intimate, comparable menu cost, traditional and the it wasn't so heavily lit inside. The place had a good feel and we were able to have good, private conversation at our table. Larger parties were in booths on the lower floor which again allowed privacy for meals. We had some drinks with bottled beer only available for the beer drinkers at £3. A couple of really good starters, piping hot with great flavours. The mains didn't disappoint. We had one curry which was spiced to suit and a really good beef stir fry. Overall very good experience, great food and environment if not a little dated in places. Staff attentive and polite. £6 for a pint is still too much despite the brand, most people having to buy in twos....
Read moreI cant ever remember writing a food review before. But without exception the Black Cat is a must place to visit, savour & enjoy. My wife, Qimin, is mandarin Chinese and very very fussy about any restaurant & normally will always find fault somewhere, however she, myself & my stepson all loved this place and wished we could revist, the lovely setting of the place created a quite intimate feeling and yet the genuine warmth of the waiter, (who seemed extraordinarily outaplace in a Thai setting ~ though it seemed also very non Thai yet at the same time so unique as to be utterly charming), bowled you over and so welcoming. As to the food itself that simply was perfection. Totally mouthwatering. We all 3 had different choices and all sampled each others with relish. Without doubt this made my IoW holiday and I'd love to revisit one day. You will not be...
Read moreJust had dinner there and it was so lovely! Such a pretty little place that pays attention to detail so well - from the food presentation, to the decor and not to mention the service. Staff could not have been better with their warm welcome and their service. The owner was such a friendly guy, a total people's person and had a few laughs with us. The food was bought out by the chef and the dishware was just so nice. Food was great, Thai food in general is so nice and worth trying if you haven't tried yet. I've only recently been introduced to it and absolutely love it for those nice evening's out for dinner. All in all, lovely experience! If we lived local we'd be regulars! Thanks for a lovely dinner...
