I am absolutely appalled by the treatment my fiancé and I received at Wagamama Leicester High Cross this evening. We’ve been regular customers at Wagamama, but after this experience, we will never return.
We were ignored for over 30 minutes waiting for our shared menu item and when we finally asked about it, a staff member (who turned out to be the manager, Chris) was extremely rude. Instead of apologising or offering an update, he simply said, "It comes out when it comes out." His tone was dismissive, and there was no attempt to resolve the issue or offer any kind of solution. To make matters worse, he came across as racist in his manner and the way he addressed us. It was clear he had no regard for us as customers, which left us feeling deeply uncomfortable.
We both ordered the chilli chicken ramen, a dish we’ve had many times before, but this time it was awful. The noodles were almost bone dry, and there was barely any broth left. It was nothing like what we usually enjoy at Wagamama. When we brought it up to Chris, he was incredibly argumentative and told us that “this is how it is.” His response was completely unhelpful.
Things took an even worse turn when Chris snatched our food away from the table, claiming he would "resolve it," only to then tell us to leave the restaurant. We were both shocked and humiliated, especially after being asked to leave in front of other customers.
I’ve never been treated with such disrespect when dining out. What was supposed to be a relaxing dinner turned into a nightmare, and I could not believe the way we were treated. I strongly recommend avoiding this location if you expect decent service, let alone...

Arrived and get greeted pleasantly enough by a young man. He seats me at my table, explains the menu choices and then leaves me to order.
Five mins pass and I've decided - my menu is shut. Another 10min pass - still no-one comes to take my order. So I start looking around and a few mins later someone eventually turns up.
I order a juice - "sorry, not got that in". So Pick another - "unfortunately not got that one in either. Only juices we have in are the beetroot ones". So I order my main and a green tea and await the food and drinks to turn up. The juice came, the meal shortly after, the green tea was nowhere to be seen, then the dreaded wait for the bill... Once I got up to pay it a 2nd member of staff came with yet another receipt which is not what I wanted. (Just gimme the card reader already!! That's the next step!) Then the chap who came to clear and clean the table just had to explain how he was struggling all day, having not ate all day but was surrounded by the smells and sights of the lovely food all day.
In short, these kids (and yes they are just kids) are untrained, have almost zero table etiquette and are mere pawns in an ever-fading, shockingly poor customer services industry. Wagamama is probably riding it out before the whole system goes cashless in fairness and their waiting jobs become largely redundant.
Surely a little communication wouldn't go amiss here? E.g. "here's the menu but please note we only have the beetroot juices in tonight". Etc etc.

Read moreThe worst Wagamamas ever. It took 2 hours and 20 minutes for three of us to eat- that’s a disgrace in itself especially when it was not busy when we arrived. The time it took for the staff to take our drinks order was appalling, let alone our food and taking away our dirty plates. There weren’t any chopsticks or cutlery at our bench, and when we asked for some, the waiter handed us the chopsticks by touching the extremity that would later enter our mouthes. They had lots of food unavailable, including the chicken Katsu curry…. if I remember correctly isn’t that the dish that wagas became so popular for amongst the young generation so they should stocks this better.
Due to being left ordering the vegatsu, my salad lacked the standard and sought after pickled ginger, and instead had what felt like half a large red onion (as though the ginger, like lots else today, was out of stock). Only after I specifically checked that they had it in stock did they add it to my food. When asking for this, the member of staff was extremely incompetent and rude over it. After eating our mains, we were left for over 30 minutes before we had the chance to order desserts, and even then the items the three of us wanted weren’t available.
One staff member came to give us our drinks (water…) and then refused and got very rude because one person at the table has an allergy. There’s no need to be so rude over it. Just politely take the drinks away and find the manager….
I’m gutted by this experience because I love the chain and eat at different wagamamas regularly, but I certainly won’t be coming...
