Shameful I am being generous giving one star! Reasons: We chose a packed sandwich We could have ordered fresh but we didn't know this at the time We asked for coffees We were told we could not eat the sandwiches inside they were takeaway sandwiches so we asked for a slice of cake to share and asked if we were then allowed to eat inside and have our coffee The server said Yes We agreed to go ahead with order and paid While waiting for our coffee and cake I had just taken a bite out of my delicious sandwich and my husband had just opened his sandwich when the same server came to us and in a harsh matter of fact voice said we are not allowed to eat those sandwiches in the cafe I said we are waiting for our coffee and cake to which she replied yes you can have them here but not the sandwiches! I asked for refund She refused I insisted and thought I was given full refund When we came out of Weetons I checked receipt It was only for the coffees and cake I went to the cash desk and insisted on refunding me for the full amount She expained as we had already opened the boxes and I had started eating mine she binned them and asked if I wanted to see the manager The manager came He explained the boxed sandwiches were not fresh Customers complain they want freshly made sandwiches He sells the boxed ones at half price and charges double for fresh ones because he has to pay his staff (who prepare the sandwiches) their wages I explained what had happened He was apologetic and asked if we wanted to come back in No I insisted on a full refund to which he agreed I told him We liked the food and it wasn't about the price It's worth paying for but the service and attitude was unpleasant It left a nasty taste really bad I said to the manager he should have the takeaways by the entrance door and not in the cafe area because it is confusing Very badly managed I don't blame staff they are only doing what they are told to do only the server could have been a bit polite She had a bad attitude as though trying to humiliate us in front of other customers We had been indoors for quite a while after having to deal with stressful situations All we wanted was a drive out and have lunch somewhere relaxing peaceful and pleasant Instead It was a very nasty upsetting experience which left us shakey and worse for wear I thought we should have stayed at home but didn't say anything because it wasn't funny .. something on the lines..We should have gone to specsavers?! Now it's funny! 😆 We found another place to have our lunch yes pleasant peaceful friendly staff and good food but previous experience still lingers on with a bad Nasty taste ugh and shakey My comfort is in that I stood firm and upright and kept my dignity by refusing the Manager's offer of inviting us in again I made it clear it was not about money or the food (should have gone to Betty's) mmm next time maybe Well since then I have given a few stars more because I received another message from the manager with an apology and to return Well it is a kind gesture from him although it took a long time its a Thank you to him 😊 I might return one day but as a mystery customer mainly to see if attitude has changed if so then it could...

I’m pretty disappointed to be giving a one star review as I enjoy the food and deli, but the service I have received was terrible. Management need to clarify the take-away/eat-in situation at the deli counter. I have often ordered a drink and coffee from the cafe, and then a deli item to eat with my drink. I have been doing this for quite some time as the deli items are lovely. Sometimes staff allow this and occasionally they do not. When they do not allow this, the staff humiliate you, gossip about you while you are eating, and create an awkward atmosphere. I can see from another reviewer that this situation has occurred before, with the service being rude, abrupt, and passive aggressive. I could quite easily eat my deli item on the stray and not spend a further £7 on drinks, but I like the shop. I would also happily pay an eat in charge, but the staff do not ever make that clear or do not offer it. It’s not like I have brought a deli-item from another shop and eaten it inside their cafe, but they do behave that way! The staff create a song and dance about you eating their own deli-items which are 2ft away from the cafe tables. Management need a clear policy, as this situation keeps arising. Why not introduce a proper eat in charge policy, instead of berating customers for wanting to enjoy your deli produce. I had communicated this to the staff; however, this complaint was not being taken seriously. This whole experience is such a shame, as I’ve been coming for years and supporting this local business. If you want an accommodating farm shop with excellent service and good produce head to Fodder near Sainsbury’s.

NB: I would like to add that the cafe inside was empty at lunch time, so there was no need for the service to be abrupt and rude. I could easily forgive poor service when it’s busy, as it’s hard running...

We’ve shopped here before and enjoyed the staff in the grocery area so tried the restaurant for brunch. It was bad from start to finish - the hostess was cold and not caring, it took a long time to have our order taken, not good service just the bare minimum. Over half an hour to get our coffee which came lukewarm and after our food was on the table. Loved the open kitchen idea, the staff in there were very busy and working hard but seemed to be in a different pace to that of the front staff who were in no rush. The food was nice, not very large portions except the cake. Cake was odd - ordered two slices, one was huge and one was tiny. Same price? Frosting was very sickly and very gritty. Overall just not a great experience and you’d expect the service to match the quality of the food and produce. Then, we popped to the shop to get some bits in to make up for it, and have come home with what we have now found to be very mouldy produce. How this can happen is beyond me , and cost my £2.50 for it ! It’s a shame as this is not something I can say has occurred when I’ve eaten or...

Brunch for 4 yesterday. At ordering we requested three hot drinks after the food and for three glasses of tap water. Waiter said yes whilst giving an eye roll. It set the scene tbh. Took 40 minutes and three further polite requests to get the smallest glasses of water I have ever seen. We never did get the hot drinks. After 90 minutes with no sign of them (again after a few polite requests) we decided to cut our losses. Staff did process refund but in very passive aggressive manner, literally walking away as I tapped for my refund and did not come back to confirm it had gone through etc. Staff generally treated us from the moment we arrived as irritations. Very bad vibe in there generally . Food, once it arrived, was good quality but cold and toast was hard as a board. Won’t return.

Stopped for lunch and managed to get a table outside in the sunshine. We both had the prawn and crayfish sandwich which ranks amongst the best sandwich we have ever had. The coffee was very good and although a little pricey, we thought it was worth every penny. Pleasant staff and freely available iced water. Inside seating isn’t dog friendly, only for assistance dogs. A great place to visit after a stroll on the Stray.
