Visited with a group of friends and our 3 dogs on Saturday, 28th Dec. We had a really fab time and the bar staff were great. Played Scrabble in the games room. Spent around £60.00 on beer, hot toddies, food. I'd been so impressed I came back today Monday 30th Dec at 12.20pm with another friend and our two labradoodles. The side entrance was locked, so went to the front door and went into the totally empty bar, no bar staff, no customers. Waited. 10 mins later a female member of staff appeared (long dark hair). No smile. No greeting. Surly. We ordered Americano and Mocha coffees. They were cold. The Mocha was actually a Latte. We then ordered the Nachos. They arrived at 1.05pm. I went to ask for knives and forks (been out with the dogs and not keen to use fingers). Got another surly response. It was so bad, the 4 other customers at the bar who just arrived commented on it and said they'd received the same passive aggressive behaviour. We all agreed this member of staff was very unhappy, tipping over to aggressive in her manner. Come on. This isn't good. Not sure I'll be spreading the word about The Tap being a great place. Though may spread the word to enter with caution before one blows our hard...
Read moreNEW UPDATE: The Tap changed hands a couple of year back and I see this old review of mine is still standing from several years ago, the turn around has been amazing… so am leaving the old review which was one star, as I have been quite a few times since and now I give it five stars without hesitation. A GREAT PUB NOW! This was my OLD REVIEW: We went for a quiet drink in this place, four of us, because the Coach and Horses was a bit packed and noisy, the service at the bar was atrocious, the place stank and was filthy, the landlord's mangy dog was lolling around and smelt. The WC's were unbelievably bad. We had to tap on the bar once to get the landlord to leave his regulars on the other side, at which he verbally abused one of our party that as we were not regulars we had no right to expect attention or service. He was utterly appalling, we had just sat quietly having 3 drinks in the corner over a couple of hours and well, none of us have ever, never come across the like and all being over 55 we got a couple of hundred years drinking experience behind us. GIVE THIS...
Read moreA great and unique pub. There is a large board-game selection with many classics. I've been there over 20 times with friends and we've only scrapped the surface of the board-games available to play. However some of them are in bad states which is unfortunate.
Food and drink are very nice and reasonably priced. I'm a huge fan of the muchos nachos. While ordering I love reading the jokes that they write on the slate.
There is a pub quiz on Wednesdays. It's important to have alot of time on your hands as there is alot of time between questions. I'm a big fan of this personally as it gives time to chat in between questions or to think if you are struggling. The quizmaster is very passionate about the quiz which always makes it a fun one. He is also very friendly as are the rest...
