A pre-booked, pre ordered family meal for 17 people. 3pm on a Sunday lunchtime. Very quiet, as far as I am aware the busy lunch service was over and we were the only diners. Great setting, reserved table in a side room perfect for the children and enough space to mingle and chat. Attentive wait staff happy and helpful , meat was plentiful and well cooked. I'm afraid that's the end of the positives.. 15 roast beef and 2 pork. Very slow to come out from the kitchen, children served last. Roast potatoes had been kept warm all service and were leathery and inedible. Yorkshire puddings were so dry they disintegrated at the sight of a knife and disappeared to dust. All the signage bragged about gravy soaked Sunday roasts, a blatant lie, gravy was so thick and reduced, it clung to the plate like slime. I know how busy Sunday lunch service is, BUT the kitchen knew we were coming, they knew how many of us there were and exactly what we were eating, yet decided to serve stale overcooked food that had been kept warm, to a party who now, will never be back. A fresh batch of roast potatoes, fresh gravy and Yorkshire puddings is the least we should have expected. Very sad, had high expectations from a place that brags about the perfect...

This was my first time visiting since the revamp, we used to visit weekly for Sunday lunch prior to that and it was always faultless. After todays lunch, i highly doubt I would return again for Sunday lunch. I was looking forward to eating here today as the menu sounded great but the tacos to start with were far too overpriced for what you get and they were sloppy, barely any meat and too much sauce. The beef topside with veg was average, my parter’s beef was tough as old boots. The bread and butter pudding was also incredibly sloppy although the whiskey ice cream that came with it was lovely. Staff were incredibly attentive, polite and all round brilliant, really couldn’t fault them. Food service to begin with was very fast but pudding was a long wait. I went to the toilets where there was some form of olden days ‘comedy’ sketch playing through the speakers but honestly, it was not appropriate for children. Finally the revamp itself I felt looked quite tacky, I understand they’re going for a more olden theme which done right could be incredible but I personally feel it’s made the pub look like it’s over...

Down hill all the way. Went to order food was told by lady behind bar she couldn't take our food order as the other girl behind the bar was taking food orders as the kitchen would be under pressure. After ten minutes we are still waiting for the other girl to come and serve us. After not waiting no longer we went round other side and then she left us and went and serve someone else. While I'm complaining she says do you want to order food as you got 6 min til kitchen closes. This pub is not run properly at all. Two girls behind bar has bad attitude. One lady on tables is lovely. Tried her best to make us happy. I will be contacting head office on Monday as there was other stuff happened to long to right an essay on here. Take it from me I will not be returning here. There is a lovely pub just up the road from here THE PEACOCK. great food great staff and great service.

BY THE WAY WHILE WRITTING THIS THE LOVELY LADY IVE MENTIONED ABOVE HAS JUST COME OVER AND SAID WOUKD YOU LIKE A PUDDING. YES MY NAN SAYS SHE THEN TURNS AROUND AND SAYS IM SORRY BUT KITCHEN IS CLOSED

ALL I CAN SAY...

This was a return visit, as we previously had a meal at the White Horse which had a couple of issues but they were resolved by the manager in a friendly courteous manner. So several months later we now decided to retry and see if our past experience was a one off. Sadly our visit was again spoilt by a rather “lack lustre” meal. We ordered Fish and Chips and Battered Banana Flower and chips. After a medium wait we were given our meals which we immediately thought looked very small. The battered fish was fine but we both had 8 or 9 chips, a fork full of crushed peas and a small ramekin of tartare sauce. The Banana Flower was tiny and quite tough. I think too much of the outer “skin” had been left on. We spoke to a waitress explaining our concerns and asked for another portion of chips to bulk out the meal. After already paying £43 for our two tiny lunches and 2 pints of beer, we were charged £4 for the additional chips. Not a great experience worsened by the staff completely ignoring our issues. Shan’t be returning that’s for sure.

A pub that's full of warm welcomes and clearly run by a great team. We stopped in for dinner, and service was excellent. Despite our waitress admitting to being new and thus unable to give qualified advice on the menu, she was full of charm and attentive throughout. The food was a little more patchy, in all honesty. Highs included the truffle cauliflower cheese croquettes to start (a delicious blend of sweet and salt) and the "our burger" which was cooked to perfection and served alongside some fantastic fries. Comparative lows were the chicken burger that was light on flavour, and the dessert special (a toffee apple crumble and custard) which was overdone and as a result extremely crunchy on top. All forgivable, but for the money (nearing £100 for dinner for two) we did walk away feeling there were better options in the area.

First visit since the new owners and refit. The new layout and decor are fantastic, well styled and give the place a great feel. The service was spot on, courteous, attentive and quick enough. The food was sublime! The starters were so good , fresh, well presented and very very tasty. The mains were again presented well, big enough portions, fresh ingredients and tasty. We have already booked in again and this is a fantastic good food addition to the local area and town.
