I really wanted to love this little independent and to a point, I did. The young staff were all lovely, friendly and trying hard to give great service. We were told on arrival that food would take half an hour as they had a big order in the kitchen. We were happy to wait. When the food arrived, my panini was crisp and looked good. The problem was I ordered cheese and it had ham in it. I told the waitress who apologised telling me she'd brought the wrong order by mistake and took it back to the kitchen. After a few minutes, she returned with a soggy panini with melted cheese. Very disappointing and not the lovely crisp panini I was hoping for. Once I'd eaten it, I found something hidden just under the salad which looked a bit suspect and closer inspection identified it as a small bit of ham and gristle. Two reasons to be upset. One, that it is very likely that the ham was removed from the bread and that cheese was added and then microwaved to melt it down and the bit of meat left behind was missed while this was done . Two, and this is the important part, I don't eat meat, and haven't for over two decades. I don't want to take away from the fact that this really is a lovely little local business with lovely staff, a great cup of tea, a reasonable menu with a varied vegetarian and vegan offer listed on boards. However, I would recommend caution to plant...
ย ย ย Read moreI remember when this used to be the Rainbow Cafe in the 80's... More a games arcade with chips than anything else!
Fortunately it's changed owners a few times since then (although those arcades...)
Back to the Future.. I mean review... The cafe is nice, clean and tidy with (currently) all the expected COVID measures in place but to be fair, there's always a decent amount of space around the tables so you'd never feel crowded, even though, from the front, the cafe looks quite small. Being down Kirkgate, it's close to the Cathedral so handy to pop in on the way to or from the market square and service is quick and efficient but not rushed if you fancy taking your time. Prices are reasonable, you can get a good meal for a tenner each and the food is really tasty and freshly prepared for you there and then. (Unlike some chain cafรฉs in town). They're happy to reserve a table if you want but turnaround is good enough if you want to wait but it can be busy at the...
ย ย ย Read moreI hate to bash and always love local businesses, but althouth this is a real sweet and quaint Cafe in Ripon market centre and looks great, the grub was a total letdown and complete catfish to the joint itself. They seem to never have any vegan curry after a couple of times poking my head through and asking. I got the vegan Chilli in which the boiled rice was cooked really bad and tasted like total mush, the chilli was an inedible temperature and tasted like it had been blasted in the microwave. My friend got the vegan panini which was bland and tasteless, nothing ground breaking. Albeit, the vegan menu is cool and the joint is real homey with very friendly and approachable staff, I would hesitate to return to this place as much...
