Really strange experience with the staff.
We ordered a mozzarella garlic bread to share as a starter between three, have done so before and it came out on a long board allowing us each around three pieces with ample toppings, the starter arrived and was round and small, the size of a side dish.
We questioned this immediately and were told it’s the same amount of dough, I said I know it’s probably the same amount of dough, but it is less topping and harder to share, we were again told it’s the exact same, which it quite literally is not.
I said it’s okay and if this is what is served we will accept it, but it is not how we have had it in the past. The server came back and told us she was getting another garlic bread made for us, which we thanked her for. This one was served on the long board, how we had been served every other time we visited, we did not ask to receive this or have a replacement made, we would not have ordered another.
Bill came and we were charged for two garlic breads. I asked for it to be removed three times because we did not request it, the server kept repeating “but did you eat two?” and insisted it’s the same amount of dough but fluffier(exactly my point, it was different and not what we expected), I kept repeating that we did not ask for two and were given it under the impression it was a supplement to make up for the miscommunication of what we would receive. When my male partner decided to step in and reiterate that we did not request the second garlic bread the waitress finally removed the second cost.
I don’t understand the argument because it quite literally is a different product to the one before, if the dough is less flattened the surface area is less and therefore has less topping placed onto the dough - it is different. And if it is now presented as a small side plate sized dish I will not be reordering or returning… I don’t know if that is the new way it is permanently served because the staff refused to acknowledge that it...
Read moreI’d previously come here a few months ago on my birthday afternoon and was very happy with the service. From the manager and waitress on the day to the food portions and quality. That’s why I had decided to come here again due to how great my experience was.However I was very disappointed today as it began with us not being allowed to sit at the table facing the canal as the manager told us this was only for large groups (even though we had previously been able to) and in the time we were there no one sat on that table. The size of the chicken in our starter was halfed in comparison to what it was when we ordered this previously. The chips were a small portion and felt like they had also shrunk. It also didn’t feel fresh in comparison to our first visit . We were also told any sauces such as ketchup would be a charge of £1, when we were given extra sauces free of charge previously. I’m shocked there would be a charge of £1 for a small pot of ketchup???. To conclude, the icing on top to our awful experience was when a male staff member in a white t shirt with brown hair , working today(23/6/24) at lunch time interrupted a conversation I was having with another waitress where I asked her if the a taste card we had would be still valid if we had a starter come out with our mains instead. Arrived at the location (Zizi Bedford), everything went well until we finished the starter and we had to wait and wait ( around us people were coming and going. Everyone was eating their food in less than 10 mins after the order was placed.) At some point after we finish the starter one of the waitresses came and cleared the table, than in a short space of time someone came and brought the dessert menu and I said that we are still waiting for the main. He said he will go and ask what was going on and never came back to update us regarding the food. Me and my husband started to be irritated and my 6y old boy was loosing his patience too because he was hungry...after a while, I spotted the waitress who took our order and went to her and I said that it has been 1h since we came and we are still waiting for the food ... I told her I want to pay for what we had as starter and leave. She said she will check what is going on with our order ... at this point I just wanted to get out of there...I felt like they had forgotten about us and I think this actually happened. Went to pay for what we ate and they refused to charge us. In my opinion the way they were organised wasn't working. It was very busy, Sunday luch time and Father's day...one person came and took the order, another person cleared the table, another person came around with the dessert menu.
