The whole night was a disaster. It was my 70th birthday today and my sister booked us in to miller & carter Bedford at 7:45pm.. We got there and was escorted to our seats and after 10 mins or so we ordered drinks and then our food. We had a strawberry and lime cider and a glass of prosecco and then we both decided on the prawn cocktail starter, I chose the seabass and she chose the lamb for our main course and we decided to share the lobster tail as neither of us had tried it before.. We were going to decide on dessert after the mains. Our starters came out quite quickly but the prawns were hard and rubbery and hardly any sauce but we decided not to say anything as we just wanted a nice time. We then sat around for almost 40 mins waiting for our main courses and after asking a waitress to check she said she was sorry we had waited and that they were going to be plating it up immediately. From the look on the waitresses face it was obvious that they had just missed our order! When the waitress brought it out, she said that the potatoes weren't ready so she would bring them when they were done, I was annoyed that we had waited so long and they bring an incomplete meal. For us though the the peice de resistance was they brought this lobster tail out that was burnt, hard as rock and very obviously inedible and at the same time my seabass was overcooked, the broccoli burnt yet not cooked and no potatoes. My sister's lamb was hard and very overcooked, the broccoli the same as mine, also no potatoes and the red wine jue was salty, lumpy and I doubt very much that it had any red wine in it. It was at this point that I asked for the manager. I politely told her just how awful the food was, that we couldn't eat it and how disappointed I was and all she said was she'd adjust the bill but no proper apology. They absolutely ruined my birthday and I was disgusted by the lack of care and attention. It gets one star for the drinks but they couldn't really mess that up could they? The meal would have cost in excess of £100 for two people but you can get better food and service in other places...
Read moreFor a place like this (meant to be well organised) was actually really bad. So we booked a table for just under 20 people, for a Sunday evening at 6pm. As a birthday celebration. We was running late so called. Got told we cannot move, not even 15mins. So said we are running late then. Turned up at 6.25pm. Parking is not simple with roads that are one way ect. Got there and the manager said there is only 4 people here. Well sorry we were trying to explain to people where to park and the staff didn't even know where to park either. Anyway that drama dealt with the next drama which was ordering, we felt rushed to order and when we did it took a while. The restaurant wasn't exactly busy, but the way they had put our tables where back to back and we had to turn around to speak with everyone. Not very well laid out at all. Food arrived staggered. So while one table ate we hadn't noticed the other table hadn't had their mains delivered. We decided to cut the cake. And by 9pm the other tables mains where still not out yet. We tried to speak to the manager but he didn't want to talk. Finally someone flagged him down and spoke to him and after this inconvenience the manager left the site. By 9.30pm the other tables mains where handed out in bags. And then they handed us the bill and charged for food which was never order or served. So if booking a big group here just keep an eye on the bill and expect to be waiting over 2 hours for food. Bare in mind we ordered at 7.15pm and one table came out just after 8pm the other table had to wait. We tried to get staff to ask but all we was told is that "our" waiter who is dealing with this group and she said she is in training and hence why some mistakes where made. I personally will not be referring this restaurant to anyone. Customer service here is awful manager is not nice...
Read moreTable for 5 eating out to celebrate a birthday, we were initially asked to keep the meal under 2 hours to free the table which was ok with us. However due to how long it took for our food to arrive we were longer than 2 hours and late for the next part of our evening. The food was only just warm when it was served, but by then we were so hungry and short for time we ate it. As it was a special occasion we ordered the 50 day mature black Angus steak. Don’t. It was no different to a cheap supermarket steak. Absolutely no flavour. And considering the cost, it comes with a small cut of tomato and a little wedge of potato (as if you’re going to be so blown away by the quality of the steak you couldn’t want for more on your plate). We also chose to ‘upgrade’ with lobster tail. Don’t!! Small and dry. Absolute dissatisfaction and waste of money. As I’ve mentioned the food was only just warm (nothing like a cold chip and the feeling of disappointment to compliment your tomato wedge and small, dry bit of lobster) but you’ll have to argue with a chef who believes themselves to be great (although they’ll leave your food under a hot plate for ages because they can’t time 5 meals to be ready at once) through a waitress who will take your steak back to the kitchen and bring it back again expecting you to just get on with it. But you just wash it all down with a bottle of wine that cost you £36 (which would have cost you circa £5 in a well known supermarket). So to sum up. Long wait. Cold food. Very very disappointing steak. Expensive drinks and kitchen staff who are ready to argue. Unfortunately the mood was already so low I didn’t feel like arguing with staff when it came to paying, for the sake of my mums birthday. I hope this might prevent someone else from having a celebration turned...
