A fantastic pub that's like two pubs in one.
The Sports bar, great for Sky+BT sports channels, which has 7 screens, so, wherever you may be sat (or if stood at the bar, when we're allowed to do so again), you will always be able to see 1 or more screens, so you'll never miss a moment of the action, (unless, of course, you're on a loo break).
Whilst the delayed Euro 2020 matches on BBC and ITV are currently being shown, Football is not the only offering; Rugby, Cricket, Golf, F1, Horse racing and Boxing can also be seen throughout the year and, for those times that nothing in particular is on, there is usually 'Sky Sports News' on.
The Lounge bar has a quieter atmosphere and is more conducive for chatting whilst eating/drinking with friends and family, with only quiet, unobtrusive, background music.
The lounge bar also hosts a popular "Sunday Night Quiz", which has been running for many years, and well worth a go. It includes a popular Music round, plus a 'DIFFICULT' question at the end of night giving you a chance win the Rollover Jackpot. So, if you fancy a bit of FUN on a Sunday evening, then be there for an 8pm start.
(At time of writing, due to Covid restrictions, I would suggest booking a table in advance, not just for the Quiz, but in general, so as not to be disappointed).
The menu has a good selection of reasonably priced great tasting food and is available in both bars. The menu caters for Vegetarians and Vegans, too!
There is a large selection of draught Lagers and Ciders with a Stout also available. There are also many spirits to choose from including several Rums, Vodkas, Gins and Whisk(e)ys, bottled drinks plus a choice of Red, White and Rosè wines and, of course, Prosecco. Champagne is also available for those 'Special' occasions,
There are also 3 or 4 'Real Ales' available. Greene Kings' 'IPA' and 'Abbot' ales are the standard offerings, (after all, it is a Greene King managed pub), plus a 'Guest' ale or 2. These 'Guest' ales include the locally brewed 'Avocet' from Exeter Brewery and 'Yellow Hammer' brewed by Hanlon's, with offerings from other local brewers such as 'Otter Brewery' and regional ales such as Timothy Taylor's 'Landlord' from time to time, to name but a few.
Obviously, there is the usual range of 'Soft' drinks and non alcoholic beers and Lagers available for those who require something alcohol-free.
So, whatever your favourite tipple may be, I'm sure the friendly and helpful team at 'The Mount Radford' will be able to provide you with something that tickles your fancy.
One downside is that there is, unfortunately, no longer a draught Bitter, as such. They used to have the popular 'John Smiths' available, but now offer a more 'expensive' Craft style draught IPA instead, of which the name escapes me.
Overall, in my experience, it's the best pub in town, and the fact that it's away from the city centre pubs, but not too far, you'll avoid the potential trouble spots on a weekend.
If you've never been before, I highly recommend you go along and give the Mount Radford a try. You're unlikely to be...
Read moreWe came to the mount radford for my sister's graduation ceremony a few weeks back. The day we were there, the place was extremely busy and there was only 2 staff members covering both bars, considering we were a party of 8, the food came to us quickly and we had all ordered differently (considering the place was packed, we were very impressed by how quick the staff managed to serve our food).
The food was excellent and was piping hot, and the food was very well presented. We were situated near the bar area and the chef was seen coming in and out and did clear the plates for us when we had finished. The chef was very friendly and congratulated my sister for her achievement and took an interest in all of us and asked if we enjoyed our food. We did ask for the chef's name as we were impressed by both his cooking and his friendly approach towards us, he said his name was Paul. We could not fault the experience and Paul especially made the experience of which we would come again. He is a credit to the company and we wish him and the rest of...
Read moreThe Mount Radford is a hidden gem in Exeter. One of the best pub quizzes going. They have a good variety of questions and a brilliant music round. Hosted very well by the team. Its very dog friendly! My dog always tries to drag us in when walking past for a treat and a fuss. Not too expensive, especially for Exeter! There's two sides, one with a more relaxed atmosphere and a livelier section with jukebox, pool tables and shuffle board. Something for whatever mood you're in. I do wish there were more vegetarian or vegan/llactose intolerant food options though as the only time we've eaten there the limited choices of food haven't been amazing which means we don't eat there often even though it's the closes pub to us. I understand that's due to the chain and not the people running the place though. The other food also looks decent so I still...
