The Exeter Corn Exchange is an unassuming venue from the outside, with steps leading up off a side road with graffiti and fly posters.
Greeted inside by a person with a bar code scanner, we got in very quickly and ascended. Once upstairs, you arrive at a large lobby wirh full length windows at one end and a large bar at the other.
Unfortunately the view is over a car park with more fly tipping than parked cars, and not much else, but the bar was well stocked, the queue mover very quickly and the staff were friendly and fast. The decor is a bit tired and it's just one big space with no where to sit, but it's OK, probably good for music gigs.
The auditorium has an attractive undulating wooden ceiling which made the room feel impressive and well designed.
We took to our seats. Unfortunately they were stuck in a row to each other, making it a very tight squeeze, and forcing constant arm contact with the person next to me. I found this quite unpleasant. Given there was much more room at the back, I felt the seats could have been spaced out better. Fortunately the seat padding was comfortable.
The show (Simon Amstell) was fantastic, the sound and lighting were perfect and we had a great time.
There was a member of staff waiting T the door on our way out, who took glasses.
There were plenty of clean and well stocked toilets.
I'll be keeping an eye out for more gigs here...
Read moreNot very disabled Freindly.....well....the building itself and the set up....the staff themselves were very helpful...
But the lift I had to use AFTER paying, it was almost impossible for my mobility scooter to get in there, I had to keep driving in and out, angling it etc, aswell as crunching the panels trying to make.it fit....
Then the layout of the Titanic exhibition wasn't very freindly, again, to Mobility scooters...the way it was layed out made it really hard for me to see anything and read it, and if i actually wanted to see it, it meant blocking everyone else off and forcing them to not be able to see....and with the amount of people there, that was impossible in its own right as I didn't get the chance to see things properly.....
Other than that, it was a good event, the content was great, but not happy that it was mis-advertised....they said they had a section of hull there, but there was not....and that was really the piece I really wanted...
Read moreAttended the Dave Can't Dance Christmas disco on Saturday 11th December. Unfortunately the event was extremely disappointing and mis-sold. The excuse for a disco was actually a member of the band playing extended club versions of tracks from a laptop. He never once looked at the dancefloor or spoke over the microphone and by the time we left 15 minutes before the end at 11.45pm not one Christmas record had been played all night. The band played 2 sessions and seemed to be a beat too slow on everything, added long instrumental interludes and the male vocalist spent a lot of time looking at the floor reading the lyrics rather than looking out into the venue. In terms of the Corn Exchange as a venue there are no complaints, just a shame the event was lacking. Several conversations with fellow guests who were very unhappy...
