The food I'd give a 4 out of 5. Would have been a 5 out of 5, however, the wait for our dessert was over 20 minutes. When I book a meal I expect to be seated at a dining table with proper dining chairs, and there was only one dining table for four with proper dining chairs. The other tables were with easy chairs, bucket chairs, a settee, a soft arm chair and bar stools. Not ideal for eating a meal from. Whilst we were eating our meal a load of people came In and stood around our table which was rude, blocking the light out and their arses nearly on the dinner plates. They then eventually seated behind us on a long table (smaller tables put together). We then realised we were eating our meal amongst a funeral wake which was very uncomfortable. After finishing the main course I asked the bar lady if we could move to another area and she was quite abrupt. She said "I reserved you a table down there and you didn't sit at it". We said "when we arrived we spoke to the barman and we told him that we'd booked a quiet table under our name and he said 'you can sit anywhere, just not the long table ". He never told us there was a wake coming in. The table that the bar lady told us that she had reserved us, we would not have sat at anyway because i do not enjoy eating a meal sitting on a settee in a main bar with TVs playing music. When I booked, I asked for a quiet area to have our meal because it was a joint birthday meal, sitting in the main bar was not quiet because that is where we moved to in the end to eat our dessert and to be honest none of us enjoyed it due to the arrangement, and the long wait which personally i believe was deliberate. The Delme states there is a function room so where is it then? If you are holding a wake or any special event then you should block that area off so that other paying diners are...
Read moreMet a couple of old friends for lunch & we all enjoyed our meals they both had the small fish and chips which for a 'small' was quite a reasonable size, the chips were of the fat type well cooked. I had the 'Doorstep' sandwich, steak, Stilton, onions & mushrooms, it was perfect the steak was cooked med-rare as requested & was so tender it could have been cut with a spoon, right amount of ingredients, tasted amazing. The selection of beers was very good, I had Proper Job straight from the barrel, clear as a bell, nice pint. Clean & tidy pub, welcomes families, kitchen open 12.00 to 2.30 then again from 5.30. Last but not least the staff, the young ladies behind the bar couldn't have done more to make three OAPs very happy customers, they laughed at some pretty awful jokes, brought out our drinks & food, smiled all the time, nothing as to much trouble. They were a credit to themselves & the pub. Some how I think...
Read moreWent today for lunch, had the curry of the week....Chicken 'asian' style with coconut...have to say it was fantastic, loads of Chicken just the right amount of heat, fab flavour, came with rice a popadom and a shaped popadom filled with chutney. My first visit here and surely will not be my last. Can thoroughly recommend... busy (always a good sign!) so suggest you book to make sure you get a table. They run an offer of two mains for £12 during the week days for lunch...but you need to check details as we did not have this deal. Sorry but I didn't take any photos but will next time. Other dishes being served looked good portion sizes, and nicely presented. Welcoming staff, all in all a good...
