If only my own local was like this. I live in a large village in Somerset, six miles South of Bath that has no less than three pubs and all of them - if not rubbish - non that I would be proud to call my local. The Cob & Pen has character, history, ambience and a lovely pubby feel. And, most importantly and the reason for my visit, is on the Cask Marque Ale Trail. This is an accolade and an accreditation that means the beer sold herein is of the best condition and quality. Many go to these establishments to drink the beer and record they were there by scanning a displayed certificate. It costs the publican a significant premium to register for this accreditation. Therefore it bemuses this reviewer, why the management choose to hide their certificate under another poster(?)

Amazing roast dinner. +Brilliantly cooked and every bit was full of flavour. +Generous portion of rich gravy. +Potatoes were soft and fluffy on inside with a nice crispness on the outside. +Beef was really good - not fatty +Turkey was very good - not dry. FYI this style carrot is meant to be served with skin on and tops & tails. One negative point - Children's play area needs some tlc. Bit of cleaning, put screws fully in, put the mats level and re-spread the wood chips (or whatever they are) around evenly. Will definitely visit again for another roast dinner.

Beautiful pub! Lovely garden with children’s play area. Easy to get to off of the ferry, with lovely staff and atmosphere. Dog friendly, free parking, resident cats. Not to mention the amazing food. Exactly what we were looking for!

Reposting a review after yesterday!

I've been visiting this pub for 30 years, have many fond memories and held a wake for my precious nan here. Sadly yesterday after a sad day saying my goodbyes to someone very special, we came to have a drink and feed my 4 month old baby. Upon arrival we were told straight away 'if you haven't booked there no tables but you can go outside'. It wasn't said in a warm manner and I was very offended by the inhospitable welcome. Didn't really find it suitable to feed my baby outside as it was really cold and we only wanted a coffee or soft drink ourselves. I am sure that we could have had a table for 20 minutes as your pub was empty with just set tables. I understand that money is to made from food service but I won't be stepping back in here for sure. We went to the White Horse with our hungry baby boy, who were lovely and let us use a reserved table. Not ever in 30 years of visiting pubs in Fareham, has one felt so cold and rude. Think it's new management, you won't keep your old customers coming back with that attitude!

4 years ago- Lovely pub that hasn't changed for years. Cosy in winter and great garden in the summer. Haven't sampled the food but...

My girlfriend booked a table for me and my family to celebrate my 30th birthday. When we were seated we were sat on the worse table possible right by the toilets and there wasn't any menus on the table. We waited 10-15 mins before going up and asking for a menu.. they gave us one, and we were told we had to order at the bar. We ordered at the bar and waited for our food and I noticed to table behind us was being waited on?? When we were just told we had to order at the bar. Also practically all the time us being there some rowdy lot at the bar were swearing and shouting and when we complained all the staff said is that they were regulars?? Oh so that's okay then if you have kids and they're swearing in a (family pub). And the food for only just acceptable just because the portions were sizable. In summary I don't feel like were looked...
